X3 TC & Albion Prelude are the obvious more modern choices.
I never did play Terran Conflict though, it always seemed like Albion Prelude was just TC v2.0, so why bother with TC v1.0.

Elite Dangerous, unironically. It has pretty good Dogfighting and loadout customization, with a ton of additional tweaks you can do to your ship, but there's a shitload of grind, and pretty much everything else about the game is meh-tier.
