With the rise of online news sources that cover eastern games and online stores that allow you access to these games. Why should small niche targeting companies bother with localizing games in the west and not just using the Asia (multilanguage) version more? Some already do this with Playasia but these niche games will never make it mainstream. They don't need it on store shelves because the people who want this niche type of game will already know about it from all the news sources covering it online and normalfags will never get it unless it's for streaming "Those wacky Japanese games".
I'm sure it's much less of an headache to make and Asia version and not have to follow the demands of the western localization companies like NISA, Aksys, and NoA that butcher the games or add in various things that only double the amount of times it takes to actually translate, edit, and test the game. Saying that, a game selling on Steam and GoG will definitely make it so it's seen by many more people.
