No it has some promise as a story of a college drop out dealing with some dark shit at home. But the main character was just an increasingly large asshole as time went on, the kind that one day realises all their friends arent their friend anymore and wonders what their problems are when they are the problem, and then just as it gets rolling it goes "UHHHH FUCK I DUNNO, THE END". But the idea of a small town murder mystery with a side scrolling style mixing adventure game and platformer elements is sound in theory.

Its not perfect but i think a lot of people got confused over what actually goes on. I played the beginning of The Lost Odyssey and I don't usually get into these jrpg's but the standard music is so hype that I couldn't get away from it.

The Flame in the Flood is a pretty comfy little game, with some bullshit quirks. Soundtrack is great and really sells the mood of the game, but the overall experience feels like it's unfinished and lacking. Hard to tell if it's hindered, in some way, by the engine they used, or if they just didn't take the time to polish it a little further. It was a nice game to sit down with for a few evenings over the course of a week, though.

The trends point towards half a decade of mediocrity in AAA titles, a market focus on Independent developers, and an overall themes of "games that defy the definition of being a game" as part of a post-modern movement. Doki Literature's File browser portion and Undertale's save state were only the beginning. The Stanley Parable will become the standard of gaming, Rage Simulators will abound, and there will be nought but a few gems from Nip-land and Indie Devs that actually know their Shit, like Cuphead.

My standards weren't high, the game refused to live up to it's own hype is why I call it shit.

If the game showcased it's actual quality all the way through I wouldn't have minded the ending being nothing.

However, the game overstretched itself. It had red herrings, tons of buildup to characters, an actual lore and backstory to the towns and even the stars, and even a potential explaination to everything, it being a professor layton and the mystery box style everyone's hallucinating due to a gas coming from the mines

It hyped itself up excellenty with it's presentation and polish.

Then nothing, the game just ends.

Even with the argument that "you just had too much expectations" I didn't come in with them. Even if it's artfully disappointing as an excuse that "life doesn't have any actual conclusions owo" It's still shit.

It will always be shit.

Nothing sans an entire story rewrite will make it not shit.

It doesn't just refer to past actions to be all eriee and meta like doki and tumblrtale, it uses 4th wall breaking to solve puzzles and progress, and in the original version it uses 4th wall breaking to give your actions consequences.

The game doesn't act like it's just a game even with the 4th wall breaking. At no time is there bullshit like "THIS IS A GAME NOTHING MATTERS ANYWAYS YOU'RE A SADIST, PLAYER!" like everything else.

I disliked Undertale's combat. The exploration and character stuff was cutesy fun, and it works in such a way as to reinforce the character development when things start getting serious – a very rare thing, especially in a video game, especially in a game that isn't ironic. However, the combat dragged things down for me. I hate that kind of gameplay and I'm bad at it. It's boring to me. I also have qualms with it in regards to design, as I don't think it fits the game's style. As a consequence, it took me months to beat the game. I basically just got to a boss fight and say "nah, I don't feel like doing this shit again."

The music kept me going through all of it. Obviously the music in this game is astounding, even if the game itself is just okay.

This song in particular really hit me and made me fall in love with the aesthetic of the game. I distinctly remember standing on that overlooking the valley with the house in the far distance, simply listening to this song.
