That's how it works if you make a meme game or shitty game that everyone either realizes is a dumb fad or they realize it sucks after the marketing effect wears off. If you make a legitimately good game, it will keep selling long after release. When you have 3D rock, it is group of triangles. Each triangle is 3 points with 3 dimensions, that is also placed in its 3 dimensions. Texture is later drawn on top of this rock.
In Wolfenstein 3D doesn't have it, there is only texture. You could easily draw it top down and lose 0 information. There is not even height, everything is set in one plane.
