Only early on did they try and fail to do anything interesting with Pokemon, like the little arc with Charizard. But it didn't end up working out since Ash is not allowed to develop as a character, since then there would be an eventual end to his character as he grows.
The movies were pretty shitty, even if sometimes well animated.

>That's funny, because in the 80s and 90s nobody fucking called anyone millennials
Two reasons.
One is because "generations" are poorly defined social concepts that heavily depend on cultural and political climates which vary greatly from country to country. For example, in Canada they claim Gen Z started in the 90's while in Japan they say it started in the 2000's.
The second is because millennials would have been very young in the 80's and 90's. Technically generation after Gen Z is already alive but nobody talks about them because at oldest, they're still only 5 or so years old.

I don't have an "Unpopular Opinion" image to go with this post.
What if it's a translation for the audience. I.e. Ash still hears "Pika pika" but he understands Pikachu. Sort of like in Viridian City when he understands Pikachu's plan to use other Pikachus to give him power. "You want more Pika-power." Not sure if subtitles gradually appearing would have been just as- if not more effective. Maybe it would have had more effect in Japanese- Pikachu's VA suddenly speaking words in that voice as oppose to someone trying to imitate it. Hell- maybe getting the Jap VA to speak English would have been better (assuming she could avoid engrish)
However it doesn't stop it being cliche and a cheap way to get "feels", trying to recapture stuff like Goodbye Pikachu or So Long Butterfree. But, it works for their target audience. Someone doing a nostalgia trip is gonna be easier to "sell" what emotions the movie is trying to sell, since they're in a childish state of mind. That and the audience is probably emotionally crippled.
Hell I'd have probably bawled my eyes out. I'm a soft-touch for shit like this.
a8b5e6 No.13794956
>>13794941
I believe it has more to do with the target audience. A child can suspend disbelief that pokemon can have a mental connection so strong is can turn into understanding speech briefly. Pikachu was even doing its "pika pika" thing just before it.

Seconded. Much as I hate bad localization and dubs, I think it's pretty obvious the Pokemon anime guys would have a "do what it takes to make it sell" approach. And the original show wasn't going to set the world on fire, except as an advert for their merch.

To be fair, you are comparing Pokemon (a show that had nearly as much brand clout as Disney or Looney Tunes), to generic moeblob/shonen anime #301375.
I will admit, nowadays even the "big" anime titles get a bad budget and bad people working on it. But nothing has been a mainstream success like Pokemon was. Not even "giants" like Naruto or Dragon Ball Z when they were in their prime. Even though you've got figures, that doesn't make the same money as a kid wanting merch (toys, games, lunchboxes, clothes - lots of cheap things to make).
Simply put- unless it's hot with the kids, they're not gonna put a Hollywood budget into a show enjoyed by a hyper-critical audience that doesn't spend as much in merchandise. The net profit isn't worth the risk if it does flop.

Just as eating candy will give you a short-term rush with long-term negative consequences (cavities, fat buildup), so too can consuming media and information. Is a child more likely to understand the long-term consequences of exposing themselves to the nihilistic and valueless schlock produced today that's dynamic and colorful, as opposed to stories of heroism and triumph that solidify the values necessary for long-lasting and sustainable human society?
Being a good parent is curating your child's environment. You don't expose your child to poison on the theory that it'll toughen them up. You shouldn't expose their minds to poison of the soul, either, which undoubtedly describes 95% of every piece of news and entertainment today.

Is the idea of arming your child with the intellectual tools to overcome sophistry and relativism also a retarded idea? Building a solid understanding of logic and argumentation? The knowledge the universe exists, regardless of human endeavor? These are all steps good parents take to inoculate children against the evils of man, and all boundaries that must be enforced, either by the parent's behavior or by the nature of being.
Parenting, again, in any society that is remotely successful long-term (aka societies that aren't on the brink of collapse like ours), is all about passing on the good and throwing out the bad. Evaluating what was and is successful in our own lives, and passing those behaviors down, is as important as determining the failings and shortcomings in one's own life, and making sure the mistakes aren't repeated.
What we currently have are broken, degraded, and incompetent people that seek only to replicate their misery; god forbid they feel any apprehension facing their own mistakes. By eliminating any sense of appropriateness or boundary, you eliminate the last possible wisdom or goodness that even a soulless, shambling automaton might pass on to their progeny.

There's no objective cure for overcoming relativism now that that's been achieved by the mind except for forcing yourself to believe otherwise. (And yes, I do hate relativism).
It's kind of like the scientific and inquisitive thought bred by Christianity evolved so much so that it undermined its own pillars and religion. Same thing with relativism. There's no cure.

Actually, I've just realized why this doesn't work (more than just Ash's VA not being the old one in a movie about nostalgia pandering).
Pikachu- an animal for the sake of it- through magic powers or Ash's concussion speaks perfect english, with an accent (albeit a moeblob accent), and despite it being knocked the shit out of, speaks with no hindrance or pain in it's voice.
To make matters worse, it speaks a bit before it says the "tear-jerker" line. Meaning it's a 1-2 (where everyone still reacting with him speaking english) instead of one massive wallop ("Oh god he spoke and he said something sweet!")
I said it earlier, but I think Pikachu's Jap VA speaking in broken english might have worked better (sort of like Stitch from Disney). Plus since Pikachu kinda says "bigga" at times, you can throw people off.

Relativism is inherently self-defeating. It tries to make the philosophical claim that "truth is relative", but that statement itself is objective, not relative. Moral relativism is similarly absurd. It's founded on the idea that culture is the determinant of morality, but culture is too loosely defined for that to possibly be true. Is it the culture of your country? Your race? Your nation? Your city? Your neighborhood? Your family? Yourself alone? Moral relativism can be used to justify any act and slides directly into moral nihilism. Humans can innately recognize good and evil, which is why even atheists struggle so mightily (and without God. futilely) to establish a system of morality.
The idea that Christianity has been undermined by science is a hallmark of (((Scientism))), the religion of pop culture promulgated by the jews. It makes bold claims like "science has disproven God" and "religion and science are opposed". These claims are outright lies. First and foremost, science can never prove or disprove God because it concerns itself with repeatable, natural phenomena. The core of the scientific method is the formulation of a hypothesis about the natural world followed by experimentation that proves or disproves said hypothesis. That method cannot be applied in any conceivable way to test for the existence of a supernatural being, for by its very definition a supernatural being is not a natural phenomenon.
Barring that inanity, though, the most common argument for the existence of opposition between Christianity and science is evolutionary theory. It is proposed that a) evolutionary theory removes the need for a creator and b) is contradictory to the Bible. The first premise is a non-argument. Even if you assume that evolutionary theory is true, it does nothing to explain the origins of our universe, which is a necessary precursor for evolution. The second premise holds marginally more weight in that evolution is nowhere mentioned in the Bible and seems to directly contradict the creation account in Genesis. Some Christians do not find this to be an issue, as they interpret the Genesis creation account in a non-literal fashion. On the other hand, many Christians (including myself) interpret the Genesis account quite literally, and we therefore must reject evolutionary theory. "Aha," you may think, "So science and religion truly are opposed!" On the contrary! Even from the standpoint of science alone, evolutionary science is nearly as unscientific as sociology.
The problems with evolutionary theory run deep; much could be written on this topic, and indeed, much already has. Because I have no desire to reproduce an entire internet's worth of information on this topic, I'll simply make a short list:
>The complete and total unreliability of fossil dating methods, which rely on insane and often circular assumptions
>The inability to prove that one fossilized organism evolved into another
>The absurdity of complex organs being formed in a series of random mutations, when each individual mutation is worthless or even harmful and would not be selected for
>The inability to reproduce abiogenesis in a laboratory
>The continual discoveries concerning the actual uses of "junk DNA" and "vestigial organs", supposedly leftovers from evolution
That's just to get you started. I'm sure you can find more if you look. I'll even give you a link to help you out.

Scientism and science are not the same thing. Science is a valuable tool for learning about the natural world. Scientism is the philosophical stance (usually taken by people who don't understand philosophy) that science holds the answer even to things beyond its ability to study.
>Christianity is a jewish trick
Anon, this is one of (((their))) most potent D&C tactics. Jews hate Christianity and will do everything in their power to destroy it. The reason they are called kikes is because when they were immigrating to America through Ellis Island they refused to sign the documents with an X because it looked too much like a cross; therefore they signed with a circle instead, which is "kikel" in yiddish. There may be a number of kiked (((preachers))) who teach Zionism, but authentic Christianity is fundamentally opposed to the jews. Jesus himself harshly criticized jewish practices, and the jews are still doing the same things today.
>I literally see evolution on a daily/weekly basis

Perhaps I used the term "Darwinian" wrong. If so, forgive me. What I am trying to communicate is this: we have never observed a flower become anything but a flower, a canine become anything but a canine, bacteria becoming anything but bacteria, and so on. I know that a particular type of creature can change over time. What I don't think is well supported by the evidence is the idea that a creature's fundamental type will change along with this natural variation. That is to say, I don't think single celled organisms evolved into fish which evolved into mammals which evolved into apes which evolved into humans, or whatever the current evolutionary chain is supposed to be.
This is a common point of contention between evolutionists and creationists, and often because of misunderstanding. The evolutionist says, "Look, the creationist thinks that species don't change at all in any way ever!" and perhaps in some instances they are right and that particular creationist doesn't know what he is talking about. Any creationist worth his salt, however, is already aware of this, and are instead trying to communicate what I said above.
As for
>I wont respond to the rest of the random shit you said because you need to be educated.
Apparently I need to be (((educated))) because I'm not rabidly anti-Christian? Or is it perhaps because I have a classical understanding of logic and philosophy? Or, wait, is it because I raised other valid criticisms of evolution that you don't have the means to argue against?

What makes you think I haven't studied this? The "fossil record" isn't useful as evidence. Yes, we have many fossils of different creatures, but even if you have fossils of two different creatures that are similar, there's no way to prove that creature A evolved into creature B. This is the circular reasoning at play here:
>Creature A must have evolved into Creature B because evolution is true!
>Evolution must be true because we have similar fossils from Creature A and Creature B!
Not to mention the enormous gaps in the "evolutionary chain".
>false equivalency about babies turning into adults
Anon, the key difference here is that this is a process that has been witnessed over and over and over, and doesn't require the creature to mutate into !creature. Evolution from one fundamental type of creature to another has never been witnessed. What makes you so convinced that these changes will eventually "add up" and transform it into something else entirely? Have you heard of regression toward the mean?
>>13799097
See, the idea that humans and the Earth itself are ancient was not only conceived of before any dating methods existed, but the dating methods now used are extremely flawed at best and outright lies at worst. Carbon dating relies on several fatal assumptions, most importantly that the amount of Carbon-14 in a sample didn't change for any reason except radioactive decay. The "layers" method of dating is downright circular: they date the fossils by the layer they're found in, but they date the layer by the fossils that are found in it. Not only that, but it's not uncommon for a fossil or artifact to be found in the 'wrong' layer at which point they simply give it an arbitrary date that better fits the existing theories.

Because they do. Changes add up and thats known and provable and you can see it. For some reason you think that just because you can't live long enough to see more changes that somehow all changes will just stop. Also the "Gaps" in the fossil record is a non argument. It's also not circular argument because we know evolution happens, again we can see it, the fossil record shows the evolution for things we weren't alive to witness our selves. I really can't understand how this isn't basic logic to you?
>It is a process that has been witnessed
So is evolution. For some reason you think it evolution just stops when you stop looking at it. We know it happens, we can see it happen all the time and we can conclude that it has and will continue to happen with evolution being shown in fossils to show that it has happened in the past but we don't even need that since it's proven without it, all fossils do is show how it happened.

Small changes within a type of creature are proven; flowers turning into !flowers or bacteria turning into !bacteria isn't proven. It is a faulty leap of logic to assume that because there are some changes over time it will eventually morph into an entirely different type of creature. Of course they will continue to change even when we're not watching, but all we know for sure is that they will change within their type; the flower will better adapt itself to its environment while remaining a flower, and same with the bacteria. To conclude anything more than that is not sound logic.

No problem there! There is plenty of geological evidence that the Earth has been much warmer for most of its existence. The Jurassic period, for example, was quite a bit warmer than today. In fact, there have only been a few colder times in Earth’s history compared to today. And ‘climate’, in the strictest sense, changes daily.
2) Demonstrate that “climate change” is manmade.
This is tougher, since we already know for a fact that the Earth has been through far warmer periods before man ever showed up. Indeed, evidence is mounting that an increase in CO2 is causing less extreme weather, not more.
3) Demonstrate that any changes, regardless of origin, happening now are man-reversible.
Good luck with that.
4) Demonstrate that they can be reversed, primarily, by crippling the American economy in particular, while nations like China and India continue polluting the planet at record rates.
And that’s where you lose your audience.
~:~
Yes, climate changes. But there is absolutely no evidence that humans are having any impact on the climate whatsoever. In order to establish an actual human impact in a statistically significant way, you must show a modern trend that deviates from a baseline of appropriate duration. Because geologic processes spanning millions of years are responsible for tremendous amounts of variation in global temperatures, an appropriate baseline must necessarily include millions of years of data to account for this variation. Not only are we not in a period of “record high temperatures,” we are in one of the coldest periods in the past 65 million years.
http://i.imgur.com/kcQnmYF.png
There is absolutely no evidence that current temperatures are outside the trend of totally natural variation, and all attempts to make it appear that way are misleading you by truncating the data to a sample of statistically insignificant size. And then they apply their misleading, exponential curve-fits and smoothing effects for dramatic purposes. The earth had had ice caps for maybe about half of the time over the past 500 million years. The picture shows rapid periods of melting and re-glaciation over periods of a few thousand years. There is nothing abnormal about current melting rates.
http://i.imgur.com/NfSDp1Y.png
The sea level has been rising at a very steady and predictable rate over the past 8-10,000 years since the emergence from the last major glacial period with no deviation at all from this trend even as humans began industrializing. When environmentalists show you graphs going back 50-100 years of rising sea level data, they omit the fact that this is both on-trend and completely expected.
http://i.imgur.com/JzjDP5v.png
We have no actual data that indicates that climate is in any way behaving abnormally, much less due to human impact. The only thing we have is a hypothesis that CO2 affects climate in a meaningful way, which is what climatologists attempt to model. But those models make terrible predictions.

If your hypothesis consistently churns out inaccurate predictions–no matter how many times you tweak the knobs and change little fudge-factors here and there–then your hypothesis is shit and must be discarded. Morons who believe in this garbage have no understanding of basic epistemology, let alone science–and that goes for the so-called “scientists” peddling this mystical bullshit.
CO2 is only hypothesized to have the impact on global climate that the alarmists claim. But this has failed to be demonstrated in two major (but related) ways. First, carbon dioxide levels are currently being measured at several hundred ppm higher than measured from ice core samples. Now, it must also be cautioned that you can’t necessarily compare these two sets of data because they represent two different methods of measurement, and have other potential biases. However, even assuming that its true that CO2 levels are much higher–and that they’re caused by human activity–current temperatures are not deviating from the normal historical trends in line with CO2.
A doubling of preindustrial CO2, absent any feedbacks, would result in a maximum forcing of +1.2 ºC. Everyone agrees on this point because it’s a simple computation given the physical characteristics of CO2 which is well mixed in the atmosphere. Actual warming, again absent feedbacks, would likely be much less due to bandwidth overlap between CO2 and H2O, something that we understand but find difficult to model (H2O levels vary dramatically day to day and even hour to hour with regional weather).
http://i.imgur.com/3JzLrS4.jpg
The General Circulation Models, and the IPCC, predict 2-8 ºC of warming because AGW theory assumes a positive H2O feedback. They assume that if CO2 causes a little warming, the atmosphere will hold more water vapor which will lead to a lot of warming until a new equilibrium point is reached. The warming predictions cover such a large range because everyone assumes a different average feedback rate. Again, modeling H2O in the atmosphere is extremely difficult because it varies so much with weather. Every GCM based on this assumption has failed to model temperatures for the past 15 years. They are all trending too high. In the late 1990s, the modelers themselves stated that if they missed their predictions for more then a decade that would falsify AGW theory.
There is no data to suggest a positive H2O feedback either now or in Earth’s past. Indeed, we cannot model some periods in Earth’s history with an assumed positive H2O feedback. It would appear that Earth’s atmosphere is remarkably adept at dampening forcings from either direction and does not amplify them. If there is no positive H2O feedback, we literally have nothing to worry about. The average climate change believer knows none of this. Politicians, citizens, activists, and surprisingly even a lot of scientists are literally ignorant of the theory and the math. In their mind, it’s simply “CO2 = bad” and “experts say we’re warming faster then ever.” The more you know.
http://i.imgur.com/AJXwGoj.png
Not only are current temperatures not outside the normal trend, we are in one of the coldest periods in the past 65 million years. Also, current temperatures (at the peak of the current 100ky cycle) are actually lower than past 100ky cycles, meaning that we are expected to either warm further just by way of natural variation or we are in an unusually cold peak period.
Second, climate models that use CO2 as a major driver for global temperatures are not producing accurate predictions for global temperatures. This is at least good initial evidence that the alarmist stance on the CO2/climate hypothesis is false. Notice that current temperatures are in no way deviating from normal trends. and that the two “scary red dots” are not observed data, but “predictions.” But, as we already know, the observed data is wildly lower than the predictions. These people are completely full of shit.

When glaciers recede, it’s called “calving”, and it is considered a normal process of climate. Sea levels have been declining recently. (search NOAA’s database to verify for yourself)
During the last ice age, sea levels were ~375 feet lower than today. During the last ice age, the Jersey Shore was 100 miles further east.
Ice ages return like clockwork throughout Earth’s history. It’s called the Milankovitch cycle. What are signs that an ice age is starting? Simple; it’s a mark of weather “extremes.” It’s important to note that during last ice age, temperatures around the global weren’t too much colder then they are today. Example:
1) Seattle was covered with 4000 feet of ice, however ice only went as far south as Olympia. If you went 150 miles south of Olympia, temperatures were 7 degrees lower then they are today.
2) Temperatures in the tropics were 2 to 3 degrees lower then today.
3) Temperatures in the subtropics were nearly the same.
4) Chicago was covered in ice, however South Carolina was probably only 2-3 degrees lower than today.
Yellowstone is a supervolcano that erupts every ~600,000 years. The last eruption was ~640,000 years ago. We are overdue for one. If Yellowstone goes off, we would be in an ice age in 3 months.
One of the signs of an oncoming ice age was increased volcanic activity. In the previous ice age, called the “Younger Dryas,” we found mammoths with 3 feet of volcanic ash on them. 40% of all mammals where wiped out in that Ice Age. If volcanic activity keeps increasing on Earth, that is a warning sign an ice age is imminent. Interesting Note: Some mammoths remains were found still standing up. The conclusion was that giant snow/ice storms covered them up.
It takes 100 feet of snow to compact to create 1 foot of ice. It would take 80 feet of snow per year for 5000 years to get 400 feet of ice in Seattle.
Snowblitz is a term for the continuous accumulation of snow, which happens in ice age conditions. https://answersingenesis.org/answers/books/frozen-in-time/the-snowblitz/ ~11,500 years ago, something happened which caused the ‘Carolina Bay’ and magnetic reversal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolina_Bay
In 1600, the “Maunder Minimum” happened when there weren’t any sunspots. Sunspots affect the amount of radiant energy hitting Earth. Less energy means the climate gets cold. The Maunder Minimum resulted in a little ice age across the globe. Dr. Habibullo Abdussamatov–the chief astrophysics responsible for the Russian portion of the International Space Station–says we are heading for a little ice age.
In the 1980s and ’90s, the Sun was the most active in a thousand years. Now the Sun is becoming less active. Does it take thousands of years for ice ages to start? No. Research project “GRIP” (Greenland Ice Project) drilled ice cores (2 miles down, 4 inches in diameter). They discovered that every single ice age from the past 250,000 years, without exception, began in less then twenty years. Ice ages swing from normal temperatures to full blown glaciation.

Congress May Probe Leaked Global Warming E-mails
A few days after leaked e-mail messages appeared on the Internet, the US Congress may probe whether prominent scientists who are advocates of global warming theories misrepresented the truth about climate change.
Senator James Inhofe, an Oklahoma Republican, said on Monday the leaked correspondence suggested researchers “cooked the science to make this thing look as if the science was settled, when all the time of course we knew it was not.” According to a transcript of a radio interview posted on his website, Aides for Representative Darrell Issa, a California Republican, are also looking into the disclosure.
The leaked documents come from the Climatic Research Unit of the University of East Anglia in eastern England. In global warming circles, the CRU wields outsize influence: it claims the world’s largest temperature data set, and its work and mathematical models were incorporated into the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s 2007 report. That report, in turn, is what the Environmental Protection Agency acknowledged it “relies on most heavily” when concluding that CO2 emissions endanger public health and should be regulated.
Last week’s leaked e-mails range from innocuous to embarrassing and, critics believe, scandalous. They show that some of the field’s most prominent scientists were so wedded to theories of manmade global warming that they ridiculed dissenters who asked for copies of their data (“have to respond to more crap criticisms from the idiots”), cheered the deaths of skeptical journalists, and plotted how to keep researchers who reached different conclusions from publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
One e-mail message, apparently from CRU director Phil Jones, references the UK’s Freedom of Information Act when asking another researcher to delete correspondence that might be disclosed in response to public records law: “Can you delete any e-mails you may have had with Keith re AR4? Keith will do likewise.”
Another, also apparently from Jones: global warming skeptics “have been after the CRU station data for years. If they ever hear there is a Freedom of Information Act now in the UK, I think I’ll delete the file rather than send to anyone.” (Jones was a contributing author to the chapter of the UN’s IPCC report titled Detection of Climate Change and Attribution of Causes.)
In addition to e-mail messages, the roughly 3,600 leaked documents posted on sites including Wikileaks.org and EastAngliaEmails.com include computer code and a description of how an unfortunate programmer named “Harry”–possibly the CRU’s Ian “Harry” Harris–was tasked with resuscitating and updating a key temperature database that proved to be “problematic.” Some excerpts from what appear to be his notes, emphasis added.
I am seriously worried that our flagship gridded data product is produced by Delaunay triangulation - apparently linear as well. As far as I can see, this renders the station counts totally meaningless. It also means that we cannot say exactly how the gridded data is arrived at from a statistical perspective–since we’re using an off-the-shelf product that isn’t documented sufficiently to say that. Why this wasn’t coded up in Fortran I don’t know–time pressures, perhaps? Was too much effort expended on homogenization that there wasn’t enough time to write a gridding procedure? Of course, it’s too late for me to fix it, too. Meh.
I am very sorry to report that the rest of the databases seem to be in nearly as poor a state as Australia was. There are hundreds if not thousands of pairs of dummy stations, one with no WMO and one with, usually overlapping and with the same station name and very similar coordinates. I know it could be old and new stations, but why such large overlaps if that’s the case? Aarrggghhh! There truly is no end in sight… So, we can have a proper result, but only by including a load of garbage!
One thing that’s unsettling is that many of the assigned WMO codes for Canadian stations do not return any hits with a web search. Usually the country’s met office, or at least the Weather Underground, show up–but for these stations, nothing at all. Makes me wonder if these are long-discontinued, or were even invented somewhere other than Canada!
Knowing how long it takes to debug this suite–the experiment endeth here. The option (like all the anomdtb options) is totally undocumented so we’ll never know what we lost. 22. Right, time to stop pussyfooting around the niceties of Tim’s labyrinthine software suites–let’s have a go at producing CRU TS 3.o! since failing to do that will be the definitive failure of the entire project.

Ulp! I am seriously close to giving up, again. The history of this is so complex that I can’t get far enough into it before by head hurts and I have to stop. Each parameter has a tortuous history of manual and semi-automated interventions that I simply cannot just go back to early versions and run the update prog. I could be throwing away all kinds of corrections - to lat/lons, to WMOs (yes!), and more. So what the hell can I do about all these duplicate stations?
As the leaked messages, and especially the HARRY READ_ME.txt file, found their way around technical circles, two things happened: first, programmers unaffiliated with East Anglia started taking a close look at the quality of the CRU’s code, and second, they began to feel sympathetic for anyone who had to spend three years (including working weekends) trying to make sense of code that appeared to be undocumented and buggy, while representing the core of CRU’s climate model.
One programmer highlighted the error of relying on computer code that, if it generates an error message, continues as if nothing untoward ever occurred. Another debugged the code by pointing out why the output of a calculation that should always generate a positive number was incorrectly generating a negative one. A third concluded: “I feel for this guy. He’s obviously spent years trying to get data from undocumented and completely messy sources.”
Programmer-written comments inserted into CRU’s Fortran code have drawn fire as well. The file briffa_sep98_d.pro says: “Apply a VERY ARTIFICIAL correction for decline!!” and “APPLY ARTIFICIAL CORRECTION.” Another, quantify_tsdcal.pro, says: “Low pass filtering at century and longer time scales never gets rid of the trend–so eventually I start to scale down the 120-yr low pass time series to mimic the effect of removing/adding longer time scales!”
It’s not clear how the files were leaked. One theory says that a malicious hacker slipped into East Anglia’s network and snatched thousands of documents. Another says that the files had already been assembled in response to a Freedom of Information request and, immediately after it was denied, a whistleblower decided to disclose them. (Lending credence to that theory is the fact that no personal e-mail messages unrelated to climate change appear to have been leaked.)
For its part, the University of East Anglia has posted a statement calling the disclosure “mischievous” and saying it is aiding the police in an investigation.
The statement also quotes Jones, CRU’s director, explaining his November 1999 e-mail, which said: “I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline.” Jones said that the word trick was used “colloquially as in a clever thing to do” and that it “is ludicrous to suggest that it refers to anything untoward.”

Also unclear is the ultimate impact of the leak, which came before next month’s Copenhagen summit and Democratic plans for cap and trade legislation.
On one hand, over at RealClimate.org, Gavin Schmidt, a modeler for the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, has been downplaying the leak. Schmidt wrote: “There is no evidence of any worldwide conspiracy, no mention of George Soros nefariously funding climate research… no admission that global warming is a hoax, no evidence of the falsifying of data, and no ‘marching orders’ from our socialist/communist/vegetarian overlords.”
On the other, groups like the free-market Competitive Enterprise Institute, the target of repeated derision in the leaked e-mails, have said: “We have argued for many years that much of the scientific case for global warming alarmism was weak and some of it was phony. It now looks like a lot of it may be phony.”
ScienceMag.org published an article noting that deleting e-mail messages to hide them from a FOI request is a crime in the United Kingdom. George Monbiot, a UK activist and journalist who previously called for dramatic action to deal with global warming, wrote: “It’s no use pretending that this isn’t a major blow. The emails extracted by a hacker from the climatic research unit at the University of East Anglia could scarcely be more damaging.”
Complicating matters for congressional Republicans who’d like to hold hearings is that East Anglia, of course, is a UK university. The GOP may intend to press the Obama administration for details on how the EPA came to rely on the CRU’s predictions, and whether the recent disclosure will change the agency’s position. Another approach lies in e-mail messages discussing grants from the US Commerce Department’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to East Anglia; one says: “We need to show some left to cover the costs of the trip Roger didn’t make and also the fees/equipment/computer money we haven’t spent otherwise NOAA will be suspicious.”
The irony of this situation is that most of us expect science to be conducted in the open, without unpublished secret data, hidden agendas, and computer programs of dubious reliability. East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit might have avoided this snafu by publicly disclosing as much as possible at every step of the way.

I just love being copypastaed at. To go through some of this
>No problem there! There is plenty of geological evidence that the Earth has been much warmer for most of its existence. The Jurassic period, for example, was quite a bit warmer than today. In fact, there have only been a few colder times in Earth’s history compared to today. And ‘climate’, in the strictest sense, changes daily.
<actually going with climate changes daily
You are stupid beyond belief, climate is not weather you faggot. And natural variation does happen, and more extremely than what we've made so far, doesn't mean nothing is happening.
>This is tougher, since we already know for a fact that the Earth has been through far warmer periods before man ever showed up. Indeed, evidence is mounting that an increase in CO2 is causing less extreme weather, not more.
Just because we've had worse climate before doesn't mean we aren't doing anything, christ. And where did you get this evidence huh? That ever so fickle geologic record you keep bitching about? Seems like you need to get some facts straight.
>Demonstrate that any changes, regardless of origin, happening now are man-reversible.
NIGGER THAT IS THE PROBLEM, IT MAY NOT BE SO WE SHOULD STOP IT BEFORE IT HAPPENS
>Demonstrate that they can be reversed, primarily, by crippling the American economy in particular, while nations like China and India continue polluting the planet at record rates.
THIS ISN'T ABOUT THE ECONOMY NIGGER, CHINA IS FAR MORE AT FAULT THAN ANYONE ELSE, BUT THE ORIGIN DOESN'T MATTER
If your neighbor is smoking and you get cancer from the secondhand smoke, are you just gonna fucking take that?

Nigger, you are replying to someone who literally believes humans and Dinosaurs lived side by side a few thousand years ago. Do you honestly believe you can say anything that will convince him about the matters of science?

This is a perfect example of how silly relativism is. Even were we to stop calling a flower a flower, the plant that we now call a flower would still have the same properties. Calling it something else doesn't change what it is. To quote Shakespeare,
>A rose by any other name would smell as sweet
Radiometric dating relies on assuming how much radioactive material was in the sample to begin with, something that you literally cannot know with certainty. Scientists regularly throw out the dates provided by such methods because they don't fit the "established" timeline.
>small changes over time = big changes
Not if those small changes are routinely discarded. Even according to evolutionary theory, most mutations don't stick because they're not beneficial. You are making an assumption.
>>13799555
Why do you find this so absurd, anon? I'll tell you why. It's a conditioned response. We are taught evolutionary theory and a prehistoric dinosaur extinction by the (((school system))) from early childhood onwards. There is nothing innately illogical or incomprehensible about humans and dinosaurs having lived at the same time; you just can't accept it because you have been taught the opposite for your entire life.
>>13799548
I think you missed the fact that the beginning of the copypasta is quoting the (((global warming))) propagandists and is not that anon's personal opinion. Beyond that, he is completely correct. The predictions ((((global warming alarmists))) have been making have been wrong for literally decades. They even renamed the issue (((climate change))) because they were so demonstrably wrong, not that it kept them from agitating for less CO2 emissions. The supposed consensus among climatologists is an enormous lie, and if you look up their actual conclusions most will say that they can't conclude anything about the origins of climate change because there are too many variables.
Phew. I did actually want to play some vidya this evening, so I probably won't respond as much anymore. Good chatting with you anons.

>Throw out the dates because they don't fit
No they don't.
>Calling it something else doesn't change what it is
You don't get it. If a flower changed then you would call it a flower still because that is the closest thing you know to it. If you never saw a dog before you would just call it a Wolf. The fact that evolution happens slow to the point where you can't witness huge changes in no way disproves it.
>Not if those small changes are discarded
But they aren't.
>Most changes don't stick
Actually most do, it's specifically the ones that are harmful that don't. most mutations aren't helpful are harmful. Learn what genetic Drift it. Even if it were true that most were discarded (again they aren't) that wouldn't mean anything because most does not equal all.
>Why do you call it absurd to think that humans and Dinos lived together
Basic logic and understanding of the world. You are literally worse than Flat earthers if you think the earth is only a few thousand years old. We have trees and tree remains that are older than how long Fundie tards think the earth is old. I can literally use ring dating (a different type of dating that even a child should be understand) to prove that the earth is at least 100k years old.

In fact I could disprove the stupid "discarded" argument by simply looking at the gene pool of a population of flies over a year or two. You can see permanent changes in gene pool make up. Evolution doesn't go fucking backwards.

>Creature A must have evolved into Creature B because evolution is true!
No, it's "Creature A must have evolved into Creature B because they share many different traits, but Creature A died out while Creature B survived because it was better adapted to its niche." Ever heard of the Galapagos finches?
Hell, have you ever heard of antibiotic resistance? How do you think that happens? Do the bacteria just swim around it by magic? Do they see the antibiotics without eyes? Do they smell it without any sort of olfactory sensors? No, the ones who are vulnerable to the antibiotic die out, and are eventually replaced when a mutation occurs in a cell that allows it to resist the antibiotic. I encourage you to kill yourself at your earliest convenience.
>Not to mention the enormous gaps in the "evolutionary chain".
This just in: records of the past, where there were no sentient beings and preservation was a completely random process, are hard to come by! More at 11!
I bet you can't even state the two words that rebut the mildly fallacious argument above. SHA1 hash: 8c636f7af1d0b62834faedabba34cf2fb460d372
