Can any of you wonderful faggots recommend me some good ROM hacks of NES RPGs or good homebrew NES RPGs? I'd even take recommendations of good Japan only famicom RPGs.

Additional criteria: No action RPGs. I'm intending to play them on my phone, and touch controls are only reliable for turn based games.

I don't remember if Lagrange Point was any good, but it is a Japan-only SciFi RPG for the Famicom, and it's mostly notable because it's one of the only games that uses FM audio by way of the VRC7 chip.

Maybe consider Lagrange Point? It got a fan-translation patch a few years back. Also maybe consider looking into Legend of the Double Moon (Double Moon Densetsu).

There's Sweet Home, which is like Famicom Resident Evil. It just got a second fan translation, but I don't know how the two compare.

Downloaded, patched, and will try later. Looked interesting enough.

Downloaded, not sure about it but I'll give it a try.

I've heard about that game, but what always put me off was thinking the game won't have much room for character progression. It always seemed more horror game than RPG anytime I read anything about it. Am I wrong in this?

i actually started lagrange point fairly recently. it's pretty good. it's got all the technophiles hard because it has some fancy audio chip apparently the NES didn't normally use, but as far as a game goes it's like the original phantasy stars. pretty fun, solid 7/10

It has stats, leveling up, turn-based battles, and equipment. Horror is really just the setting. I don't think the playable characters get much character development, but that goes for pretty much any NES game. I like that there's more emphasis on exploration and puzzles than grinding.
