I have a DK2, and the first thing you need to know that it's a giant buggy piece of shit.
Just like multi-monitor setups with Windows in general, be ready for stuff to not work properly.
Anyway, you wanna fetch the following:
<An DK2 driver that actually supports your DK2 (I don't know if its deprecated)
<Information about how many outputs your GPU supports. If you have a multi-monitor setup, you might need to unplug one of your monitors for your DK2 monitor to be recognized
<A bunch of games/demos that support DK2. Note that newer games explicitly do NOT support DK2, so good fucking like finding them
<Shiftwindow, because DK2 demos often wont show up on the right monitor
Your first goal is to install the driver and then getting your DK2 to properly show up on the Oculus software. This generally involves a lot of unplugging, restarting and manually switching between 64bit/32bit versions of the Oculus runtime in order to get shit to function.
Once that functions, you should be able to enter a demo scene as part of the Oculus software. There will also be a bunch of settings available that you should try to configure, such as your height, distance between your eyes, etc.. This is necessary in order to get a proper sense of scale in VR.
After that, it's time to fiddle with demos. Some demos will properly interface with the Oculus software and "just werk". However, these are a minority.
Most of them will actually only run properly with some fuckery, which is what you need shiftwindow for. You can configure your Oculus to show up as an extra monitor. Combine this with making the game run in (borderless) windowed mode, using shiftwindow to position the window correctly.
My experience is that whenever I get to a new machine, I have to waste an hour trying to get shit to work.
It's fun to demo and show friends&family, and there are some comfy demo fun to be had, but in general its not all that exciting.
The two things VR has over non-VR are
>Depth perception
>Very easy to immerse in
Depth perception is rice, but no game or demo uses it in a meaningful way. It's fun to experience at least once.
Easier immersion is most likely irrelevant to you, since you probably play plenty of vidya and have no problem immersing yourself. However, your casuals as fuck friends&family that can't immerse for shit will be amazed.
I haven't used it for porn, but putting anime titties in VR makes them 3DPD.
