Pokemon from Gen V onward had straight up subtext or offscreen /u/ with the lesser known Ferris Wheel scenes with an NPC exclusive to playing as a girl in both Black/White and Black 2/White 2 and a pair of Teammates that can't be battled in a secluded locked room in an abandoned flooded ship out in the middle of the ocean with both being embarrassed and one girl acting like she was teaching the more inexperienced looking one how to be a trainer.

Lillie doesn't go with you to Exeggutor Island, and Gladion does indeed go to Kanto in her place. USUM basically gets better gameplay but worse story in some areas due to holes/changes in characterization, notably with a fair bit of Lillie interactions/cutscenes being cut out, and Lusamine not making a lot of sense in this timeline - even less so if one were to only play USUM without knowing what's said about her in SM, which happens to be directly tied to Lillie's character arcs. Overall, Lillie's development is worse, and any romantic implications one might think are there for either gender aren't really present in USUM from what I remember.
