I remember hearing a story by some guys that claimed to have gotten root on their server and defaced ~2300 websites by changing the apache config.

> Create a hard link to shadow file
> Break permissions on your home directory
> File a support ticket to have your permissions reset
> Sysadmin does sudo chmod -R on your home
> You own the shadow file
> Change apache config to serve up your deface page
> ~6 hours later server goes down for "maintenance"
> Sysadmin takes more than 24 hours to realize what happened and fix it
