Is Telegram a good chat platform privacy wise?
I want to keep in touch with people, but I would like an alternative easy to use, and I think this one could be.

No, it's not only insecure but Durov's a confirmed FSB puppet.

Yes, Telegram is absolutley fine. Retards like >>985104 are the kind of people who use Wangblows with Iridium Browser and call it secure enough to read Drudge Report

You need a telephone number which completely defeats the purpose of anonymity.
Id rather use wickr.

Nothing that requires your phone number is good privacy wise.
There's quite a lot of reasons to believe Durov to be an FSB puppet btw

A bit better than other botnets like Whatsapp, Discord, or Skype. That said, it's not quite there yet since the backend is absolutely non-free and therefore can't be trusted. If you can, use something you can selfhost with the backend and frontend being Free.

It's not anonymous. It's just encrypted. Signal is nearly identical with stronger encryption.

Yes, and to this day I still haven't figured out why. I would guess it's a case of "Not Made Here" syndrome.

Until today its not encrypted by default, you have to user the "Secret Chat"
The server-side is non-free
I think that's enough to consider it non-ideal, but I still use it, as I have some friends on it and it has a working client for desktops

It's been fine so far for me. The phone number shit never bothered me because i use prepaid phones. If you're that worried about privacy with Instant Messaging use smoke signals.

but signal (open whisper systems) is us gov funded so can we really trust it? also it kinda raise a red flag to me since facebook-microsoft-google all implements signals encryption.
for me its xmpp + omemo with conversations app by the way.
