It sucks there's no Lineage or other good ROMs for android TV. I have a fireTV and I just added a custom launcher to it but it still has issues. Good for streaming and emulation though

turn it into an encoding box?

unless you have an 8th generation intel botnet processor, there's nothing that can hardware encode vp9, except those processors, and phones (even top of the line gpu's don't have vp9 hardware encoders yet). If this thing can hardware encode vp9 it might be useful.

it has an ethernet port so you don't need wifi working. if you got jewbuntu running on it, you should be able to compile ffmpeg. if you can install gentoo on it that would be preferable but that would also be lots of fun. trying to get the hardware encoder working on it from a linux installation on this thing might also be lots of fun..

you might be better off writing an app that provides a small api to encode videos.

Damn so it’s pretty much useless then. I might try to get mate running on it again and try to mess with the settings to fix the video issue. Was hoping I could have made it into a smal vpn box or whatever.

Also, so there isn’t any other custom android roms I can install on it because I feel like it’s probally backdoored by the PLA

if you can root it you can still make it useful from the android OS, you just might have to write some apps yourself.

That box is powerful enough to install gentoo. So install gentoo and turn it into a hardware encoder and game emulation box.

you want to turn this into an encoding box your going to have to do it from android, not linux

ffmpeg apparently has shit support for android. your not going to get hardware acceleration working on it from linux

it looks like

https://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/MediaCodec

is the way to do this native from android os, but it's low level and complicated.

you write an app that does this it's going to take so much work you might as well sell it on the botnet store.

Is there any custom roms I can install to get rid of the PLA version of the android that came installed on it?

 No.961414>>961421

I also got one of these, but all the flashing instructions are outdated and badly translated from Russian, plus all the ROMs are static handmade binaries only available from shady forums.

Coming from the PPC Linux ecosystem, and hearing hype about how easy RPi is, I'm astonished at how slipshod the broader ARM SBC Linux scene is. I'm astonished something as simple as Open Firmware or EFI doesn't exist, on either SBCs, nor Android phones.

Also, super cheesed off at the fact that ARM SBCs with MSRPs of $5-$10 have street prices hovering in the $15-$50 range.

They are so cheap yet have zero support on anything wtf?!?!? Mine is very laggy but gets the job done. I know it’s running it’s own custom rom of android would love to know how to reflash the bish so I can be a 1337

Isn't creating and selling apps all about solving your and others problems? (And making Shekels on a jewish platform)
