Piratebox and Wireless Mesh Networking

>Does the PirateBox do wireless mesh networking?

The holy grail of offline networking is wireless mesh and we've been experimenting with it for the PirateBox. We have successfully deployed and connected small arrays of PirateBoxes using the B.A.T.M.A.N. protocol and synchronized them with Forban. This is still an experimental feature at this point though we are making good progress. We'll be pushing out an alpha version of this feature in our upcoming release.

This is currently rustling my jimmies

Has anyone successfully done wireless mesh networking from computer to computer, utilizing only computers and no routers here?

Pic related shows routers though, but you get the idea - computers directly communicating with other computers without running through a network hub

It would totally alter and innovate the internet as we now know it.

would like some guidance if anyone has any

Goolag puppet, report and ignore!

the router is a computer too

Explain. How is using a mesh network to aid piracy related to goolag?

You might as well name something HoneypotBox

The piratebox isn't that great if you just want to help piracy along. It's more of a local imageboard than anything else, unless some user or other stuffs his anime collection on it.

Such a thing exists. It was created in the wake of hurricane sandy to fill the need for a mesh network.

>The goal of Project Byzantium is to develop a communication system by which users can connect to each other and share information in the absence of convenient access to the Internet. This is done by setting up an ad-hoc wireless mesh network that offers services which replace popular websites often used for this purpose, such as Twitter and IRC.

>wireless mesh networking from computer to computer,

>what is WiFi hotspot?

One device would function in a router role, unless you are creating an alternate topology to a star network.

I did that. People avoided connecting to it for some reason.

I downloaded a copy to be burned to CD and added to my complete set of Debian disks. Any suggestions for Android and Apple phone clients to have on hand? It has occurred to me that in a WROL situation it would be handy to set up a system that my neighbors can join and use their smartphones to communicate.

My first thought was to set up an Asterisk system and have 911 route to a command center extension. Tickets might be a good software solution to have on hand too. Sigh. And then you need Openstreet Maps... okay, so I've got a rainy weekend project now.
