>banning 'pirated' media is cleaning up a community
I hope you're aware copyright is literally a scheme to fuck over authors pushed by publishers (going all the way back to the Stationers who required authors to sell their manuscripts along with the rights for a couple pounds, or they wouldn't publish them). The practice is still much alive today (see copyright assignments), and copyright being shit is literally the reason sites like sci-hub exist.
Also,
>implying banning a subject will make it go away
You're the reason reddit was (and still is) a mistake.
>generally wholesome community of Reddit.
You mean, like when they banned discussion of suicide on Leddit because it didn't fit their muh family-friendly agenda? Even so much as saying "I hope you get better" was seen as "endorsement" and a reason for a ban.
Shoving uncomfortable shit under the rug is not being wholesome. It's just adding saccharine to a pile of shit. But what would soyboys like you know.

>What I do mind about is the signal to noise ratio, and the amount of smart people in the user base.
and the constant virtue-signaling and points whoring. Especially the validation-seeking and the need to fit in.
Like that faggot who gave Starcraft's source code for good goy points and a couple of gaymen peripherals.
And the faggot who gutted an Xbox dev kit (HD with SDK and unreleased software included) to make his "PC Master Race" rig for imaginary internet points.
