Just how OUR GUY can a guy get?

Not /tech/.

 No.899585>>899588 >>899611

it's about DRM as far as I understood.

so it must be on topic.

This. Thanks.

Proprietary software IS drm.

 No.899626>>899632

>>899611

Proprietary software doesn't necessarily prevent copying and doesn't always insert some watermarks everywhere. There IS a difference between DRM'ed software and simply proprietary software.

 No.899632>>899641

>>899626

Proprietary arbitrarily prevents preservation so it's DRM.

 No.899641>>899645

>>899632

DRM is a technical matter. Proprietary software is a legal matter.

Some of the reasons DRM is bad also apply to proprietary software in general, but calling proprietary software DRM ignores all the other bullshit involved in DRM.

 No.899645>>899650

>>899641

Yeah. For example, DRM needs special hardware to work as designed (TPM of some sort).

 No.899648

>>899576

A lot more than acknowledging there's a technical problem with the DRM on his proprietary software and promising to fix it without suggesting the DRM itself will ever be removed, to be sure

 No.899650>>899724 >>900029

>>899645

Digital Rights Management has nothing to do with hardware, it is when a piece of software runs in the background to police your legitimate use of another piece of software you actually want to use. Please stop conflating DRM with other forms of copy protection, it is very unhelpful. There are hardware means to try and prevent people from copying, but they aren't DRM.

>>899650

>digital has nothing to do with hardware

You're a special kind of retard.

Look at the sorry state of this thread. Slid by some niggers.

Point is DRM hurts performance and gaymers should get all huffy about it. Of course, deciding to forgo DRM-laden software is not an option because muh gaymes n shit so let the angry forum posts commence!

If this Jap was really mad he'd release his gaymes DRM-free on GNU/Linux and open source at the bare minimum the previous versions. Instead he will shrug his shoulders after complaining a bit, then go back to cranking out proprietary Windows software and allow his publisher to infect it with a DRM virus and then inflict this indignity on his brain-dead fans.

Hi /v/!

 No.899961

A virtual machine designed to run absurdly large obfuscated code that deliberately does useless things that have no actual purpose to make reverse-engineering hard affects performance?

No shit.

>Digital Restrictions Management

This is the correct name. Don't make this mistake again ffs.

>There are hardware means to try and prevent people from copying, but they aren't DRM.

What else they are then?

…what a bunch of bullshit, fuck.
