I just did a i5-sandybridge full system (emerge -e system) build from stage3, and also emerged xorg-server, firefox, kernel, laptop and wifi garbage utilities, etc. in less than a day using a luks-crypt lvm target and allowing for me to fuck with libressl to get it working

even with older hardware and dookie read-write speed, it doesn't take long and you can use your system while you're emerging new shit

unless you have an LGA775 or older, your only real excuses are "I am lazy" and "I have low understanding"

Gentoo doesn't actually take that long to install if you use GenKernel.

I got my base system installed in one day and got the rest installed just by setting it to compile my stuff while I was away. It only took three days to get a system for what I need and by the end of the week the longest, least necessary packages were done.
