I... I didn’t realize how much I wanted this

Yeah, inferior cross browser plugins compared to the old ones.

Great!

You'd think they would test and actually finish their api before releasing it to the general public, this only reaffirms that WE was rushed out for no real reason at all.

You can't just say "we're replacing our extension api with something better", strip out the old one, and replace it with one that's 10% complete. It doesn't matter how much time you give developers to migrate if you simply don't have functional compatability with the old API.

I don't know what they're thinking but this has been nothing but a mess so far for everyone involved, I wonder if anyone outside of Mozilla is happy about WE.

Why do you think it was rushed out? They've had a working web extension system for many versions. These new API are simply additions to an already mature system.

As already stated, they have dropped functionality from the new API but plan to reimpliment some of it, why release it now if you plan on having some parity but don't have it yet.

I'm surprised you would call such a system mature at all when it's barely seen any use, the only thing is has is age, and that's not a direct companion of maturity, maturity requires extensive testing and use with that age. I could say Jetpack is old and thus mature, that doesn't make it so, despite the nice advantages it gave, it was still not very popular when it was released, WE is exactly the same case, it may have been available for a while but it's far from mature.

I don't see where you're coming from on this at all.

Beta level software has bugs in it that need fixing before it can be declared "release level" or "mature". Firefox's web extension system has enough work done to it to pass beta level. After this level, it will continue to mature even further. Feature parity means nothing to maturity. The stability of the system in the majority of its use dictates maturity.

Not sure who you're trying to convince.

I'm explaining the definition of mature software. If it's matured past beta level, it's mature.

 No.826120>>826146

All the webextension versions of my plugins are shittier gimped versions of the originals

 No.826146

>>826120

They're not gimped, they're mature versions.

Dead critical extensions are still dead. Go fuck yourselves and die Mozilla.

 No.826254

I can't wait till they re-implement some functionality, only to be deemed a security problem again.
