My processor (i5-4200u) does not have vpro so it should probably not have Intel Boot guard but but me_cleaner says it does. It also said that on an older processor where ibg did not even exist so it may not be reliabe.

External flashing seems to be safest, however I do not have an SPI programmer and since coreboot does not exist for this motherboard I was looking into using OEM flashing. The problem is that acer is a shitty company and the only bios download they offer is an .exe. I have managed to extract an .fd which I think is the BIOS but me_cleaner just says "ZRQ.fd is 4665264 bytes No Flash Descriptor found in this image".

These capabilities are quite terrifying and this "anti-theft" can apparantly brick my pc if it does not get the response it wants from an intel server in time or whenever they feel like sending a kill signal. I also hate having DRM support even in blob-free GNU/Linux. So I'd like to know if my laptop has Intel Boot Guard in which case I migh as well go lie down and die and if not how I can get rid of this legal rootkit.

Oy vey they aren't connecting to my botnet, shut it down.

Windows 10 will implement this anyday now.

How many botnet levels are you on?

Not having vPro doesn't necessarily mean you don't have Boot Guard

There has been some work in bypassing it on a select few systems but I don't think any of it is relevant to non-researchers for now

Your only real option is to get a new laptop (preferably one with coreboot support)

Do you remember every search query and every keystroke that you made yesterday?

If you're a HP laptop-buying, Windows 10-using, Google-browsing normie, you're the only person in the world who doesn't know what you looked up.

What a bizarre and upside-down world.

That is an industry feature, for businesses.
