Redpill me about Psiphon.

there has to be something fishy about it, they can't possibly offer this quality VPN for free.

are they selling my shit? if yes, to who?

 No.813004>>813010

If they don't tell you their business model up front, it's not "quality".

>free

>doesn't spy on you

pick one

 No.813010>>813011

>>813004

according to wiki, they're open source.

and the privacy policy on their website seem honest.

i'm confused

 No.813011>>813012

>>813010

(((open source))) doesn't pay the bandwidth bills

 No.813012

>>813011

they say they're payed by their ads parteners.

idk m8 i'm as skeptic as you.

it could run like tor or be pure scam run by LEA.

i don't think its run by a bunch of haxors willing to rape your computer with viruses and adwear for cheap bux.

 No.813014>>813015

>psiphon

>(((easydns)))

There's your smoking gun. They are a fucking botnet.

 No.813015

>>813014

enlighten me pls

 No.813018>>813024

Reminder that (((VPN)))s are a meme. Not necessarily bad, but easy to use wrong, depending on what you're trying to accomplish. If you're hiding from copyright lawyers they might be good. If you need stronger protection then you should read on the threat model of Tor Browser Bundle or Tails. Then it should become obvious why a VPN lmao "a" VPN without other well-tested and reviewed measures is a poor choice.

 No.813024>>813025

>>813018

It goes without saying that "VPN" vendors are snake oil vendors. They're trying to sell you privacy as a product, just like registry cleaner software companies are trying to sell speedy loading times. What they offer can be a useful tool, but you can just as well shoot yourself in the foot, often silently without you noticing it at first.

 No.813025>>813033

>>813024

And if it's 1. free and 2. not 100% a community effort, then it is you who's the product that is being sold.

>Privacy. Psiphon 3 is designed to respect user privacy. User statistics are logged in aggregate, but no individual personally identifying information, such as user IP addresses, are retained in PsiphonV log files.

>User statistics are logged in aggregate

Anonymity. Psiphon is not an anonymity solution such as Tor. If a user connects to a Psiphon proxy which is beyond the monitoring of the censor he or she is circumventing, then the censor will only see that the user is sending encrypted traffic to a Psiphon proxy. The censor will know the user is using Psiphon. Psiphon does not defend against traffic analysis attacks the censor may deploy against traffic flowing to Psiphon proxies. The Psiphon proxy will know where the user is coming from, what their unencrypted traffic is, and what their destination is, and so the user is necessarily putting trust in the entity running the Psiphon proxy.

who owns their proxies?

why is there no linux client?

>What user information does Psiphon collect?

>From time to time Psiphon may have to record additional information in order to resolve a problem with our service. When this occurs, we will add an entry to the Privacy Bulletin describing what was recorded, how long it was kept, and why.

>Psiphon Client Software

>Advertising Networks

>We sometimes use advertisements to support our service, which may use technology such as cookies and web beacons. Our advertising partners' use of cookies enable them and their partners to serve ads based on your usage data. Any information collected through this process is handled under the terms of our advertising partners' privacy policies:

> User IP addresses are not collected by Psiphon servers in the normal course of operation. Psiphon does not require user accounts, so, by default, there is no collection of email addresses, usernames, or passwords.

>Event logs include timestamps, region codes (country and city), and non-identifying attributes including sponsor ID (determined by which Psiphon client build is used), client version, and protocol type.

So they dont' log your IP unless they do log your IP when they may or may not post a bulletin, but don't worry the client will generate a random unique identifier for you and they'll identify you by that and then keep it indefinitely for sale to their advertisers.

Is circumventing censorship your only objective? Is being an easy target for datamining by Psiphon and three-letter-agencies no concern for you?

>>813054

i wonder what their torrent policy is, and i wonder if they block all tor exit nodes, which i bet they do.
