Broke a ThinkPad T440 while replacing some parts, that laptop was complete shit so I'm looking to get an X220T (maybe to coreboot it). Should I just get an X200 (and possibly libreboot) or go for a X230?

I have a x230 and I really like it. I think it was probably the best deal I ever did. The size is just perfect, he runs everything I need him toand my only regret is lack of opengl support which prevents me from playing an mmo made for children back in 2003.

I would get the X230 but I would really like the classic keyboard. I know you can mod it but it seems to tedious

It's as simple as unscrewing two screws, sliding out the keyboard, and disconnecting the ribbon. Do the opposite to get it back in. There are even symbols denoting what screws do on the back, it's idiot proof.

X230T doesn't have any opengl problems, and it has partial vulkan support if you can somehow get a copy of the i7 version.

thinkpads are botnet, Intel, Management Engine, x86, blobs

Libreboot then, AFAIK there are no x86_64 computers that ship with Intel ME disabled or without any binary blobs, yet

IIFC, you need to flash a custom BIOS image. I do plan to coreboot some time but this isn't worth it for me right now. I don't want to fuck this laptop up (even though you can't really fuck that up).

Peformance also doesn't matter to me since everything I do and use is lightweight. X220 and X230 seem identical besides that.

I've been a Libreboot shill for about 2 years, Coreboot before it. I have a pile of x200 and a few coreboot x220 and x230. There are some security concerns with LB due to no microcode updates to patch spectre and meltdown completely, and obvious vPro/ME/Intel Inside your shit for the coreboot, even with ME "disabled" it is still there, built into the hardware and you are still using proprietary microcode.

So, going under the assumtion all x86 is broken, I'd have to give my vote to killing yourself and praying you wake up before computers went mainstream or after everyone forgets about freedom and you wont have to worry about it anymore.

Or shell out for a Talos II I guess.
