Can the ESP32 be used as a low powered wifi RSSI sensor. I.E. turn on an led when a device comes within a certain proximity?

I am running off battery here. I want to detect phones sort of like a paxcounter

I wish there was moar micro controller threads here, or a place we can talk about micro controllers.

I have its predecessor the ESP8266, and a 2MP Camera daughter board and I've never found any practical use for it.

I would like to set up a device. Perhaps in a tree or out of reach. When someone walks by with their phone the "trail cam" turns on a wifi hotspot they can access to view a server webpage with a timelapse on it.. or they just press a button and it turns on the hotspot. Just some ideas for you I guess

I also picked up pick related and a couple long range wifi boards today and haven't found a use. Maybe some kind of sensor for my dads storage facility

>phone has bluetooth enabled

>phone's bluetooth name is known

>esp32 searches for list of known names

>lights up LED if signal strength exceeds set amount

>esp32 then goes into some sleep mode and repeats the above 2 steps every predefined interval to save power

 No.1072325

You'll have to use deepsleep somehow. One of the answers here may be useful: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/39481196/how-to-wake-esp8266-from-deep-sleep-without-continuous-resets

Its for ESP8266 but the solution works for both.

There's cheap chink led key-chain toys for cell phones that do that.

>There are a variety of charms available, such little figurine characters, rhinestone crystal charms, and small teddy bears. Some charms flash or light up when the phone rings
