I have been using uBlock Origin for a long while now but that might come to a end soon.

It started when I went to YouTube and it failed to block advertisements in videos. Not exactly sure how YouTube did this but they basically broke uBlock Origin and made it so that it plays advertisements that you can't skip if it detects you have a adblocker.

Not sure how many are effected but if I can't find a solution I might have to find some alternative. Any suggestions?

what blocklists did you have enabled?

adblockers are for idiots who can't edit a simple host file

ad blockers don't just block whole domains - they do a lot more than that.

99% of ads come from a dedicated third party domain.

Blocking those will do more then a simple list/adblock ever would.

t. short-sighted dev.

Writing a list of ad domains to your hosts file does nothing when new domains pop up or pages use more creative ways around that.

Adblockers can do fancier stuff to find specific HTML elements and block them, and even block certain javascript snippets.

Just use shit like uMatrix or RequestPolicy on the default DENY policy, and whitelist third-party stuff. It's really easy and it's not an ad blocker.

I agree that using hosts file is silly though. That shit was never intended to block resources, and it sucks at that.

I didn't say shit about host file, i was implying you should block third party by default using something like umartix or noscript.

Solution: Update the filterlists and make sure you have auto-update enabled.

Now begone, shit thread!

You do know that the same person who developed umatrix developed ublock0 right?

I will always support our once and future king, Raymond Hill.

Yes. Ublock is the newbie's content blocker, uMatrix - the hacker's one. Both have their place but people should be striving to learn uMatrix in the end. I agree Raymond is great.

How is it in any way "worse"?

Raymond has never done anything cuckish or corrupt. He's probably one of the most honest and moral devs out there.
