▶Running HolyC on Linux? Anonymous 11/28/18 (Wed) 20:37:46 No.1002384[Watch Thread][Show All Posts]
Is there no good way to run HolyC on Linux yet? Any hope that this can be done? Or do I have to use TempleOS so far?

you can translate holyc to c

Yeah, I've seen this but it seems super basic and doesn't support much. Is there a better way? It doesn't seem like you get any benefits of writing HolyC this way, other than just some alias swaps.

The source code is all right there in any TempleOS iso. Master HolyC on TempleOS and then write a proper compiler for it in C on Linux.

Ya you have a point, I guess there is much work to be done.

Write an interpreter/transpiler.
Protip: you won't because you are a LARPer

Well I didn't know if there was something available or not. It does seem like a nice hobby though. I'll look into it!

Post it on /tech/ when you're done.

I think I'd rather write an interpreter for it in ruby on redox.

Why even use holyc if you dont have all the libraries and shit terry made for it. aka the graphic libraries and all the other shit. itd be easier just to add the couple of features holyC had to C then to translate all of holyc to linux
▶Anonymous 11/29/18 (Thu) 00:56:22 No.1002482>>1002506
Would Terry appreciate this? He wasn't a fan of Linux (or Unix, really), even though he used it.

Translation: I am not going to (or can't) do it, but I don't want to say that directly.

Terry didn't like the OS getting in the way of programmers programming the hardware. One of Linux's goals as a general kernel program is to multiplex and abstract the hardware so that individual programs are not required to access the hardware directly. This is antithesis to what Terry wanted which is for him to play with the hardware.

It's not too hard to write a non-optimizing compiler or transpiler. It's fun too, try it.

Jeez anon do you think you've found some great secret of the chans? Everyone knows this is how these threads are. Maybe you're just hoping for some (you)s to beat off to...
