The Chinese trailers make this movie look much better. Too bad that in order to pander to those audiences it focuses on characters that will only get a fraction of the screen time and thus a minority of good scenes.

>>456

>Felicity brings such strength

She's a weak one-note actress with no range or modulation. The rumor mill states that her shitty "style" of performance is a major reason why reshoots were ordered for Rogue One. They're just piling the blame on the original director because slipping criticism of le stronk female lead would amount to bad press and derail the statement that Lucasfilm wants to make.

Why are they choosing such awful candidates to portray these woman protagonists? I don't have problems with Rey or Jyn on paper overall except for the bullshit 11th hour Force mastery. What's worse is that Daisy Ridley thinks that emoting means mugging the camera with a painful scowl and hiked brow reminiscent of a frustrated chimpanzee and that Felicity Jones very well might have been carved out of wood and blessed by a blue fairy.

I guess $10.00 for a ticket isn't that much money in the long run, but I'm not sure it's worth that much just to stage a protest walkout in my nowhere town. I'd rather not pay Disney/Lucasfilm for the privilege.

Disney act like women are a big deal in Star Wars now but they still won't risk putting more than one in the main cast because they know this girl power thing doesn't actually sell and the movie will flop.

I predict it will still perform much worse than they hoped. The advertising is weaker, the emergency reshoots will cause inconsistency with the darker old scenes, the lack of a title crawl and John Williams music will leave normalfags feeling it isn't Star Warsy enough and the fight scenes already look like something out of the old Power Rangers show with their fake kung fu and sparks flying everywhere. It will set a trend that will haunt the rest of their planned non-episodic movies.

I wouldn't call it perfect, but it wasn't as bad as I led the board to believe.

I'm sorry, Stormtroopers. I trusted a source that outlined a 95% accurate script for the TFA, but none of what I was told and repeated here about the final cut of Rogue One was true.

Jyn isn't Force-sensitive. She isn't Rey's mom.

Darth Vader is never defeated or even comes remotely close to injury. In fact, he butchers a hallway full of terrified, trapped rebels in a manner reminiscent of the prologue level from The Force Unleashed.

All of the rebels die. All of them.

Even Ira Belle is vaporized by Death Star discharge

In the end, its greatest flaw was mediocrity. Its potential was likely strangled by the reshoots, which disrupt the tone of most the middle third.

Tarkin CGI mask wasn't as bad as rumored. Leia CGI was much worse than rumored.

Worst CGI was in the form of this pulsating, undulating space octopus from abso-fucking-lutely nowhere. Saw uses its psychic powers as a lie detector on the sand nigger character (who acted better than Forest Whitaker). After 15 seconds of gay tentacle hentai, it's never mentioned or brought up ever again. Why wasn't this scene cut in favor of something that made sense?

As a matter of taste, the casualty count was far too one-sided. For every single cloth and leather swathed rebel that died, 10 or 12 stormtroopers were sent spinning by grenades or shot in the balls. Apparently Obi-Wan hadn't seen Stormtroopers in enough action to appraise their skill, because their combat efficacy shows much to be desired here. In the OT, the excuse was just that the main cast enjoyed plot armor, but now it takes two energy packs to hit the broad side of a diversity hire.

Stormtroopers are only allowed to kick ass in novels, now. Both Rebels (mostly) and this movie suggest that Disney has decided to take the retarded, played-out, TV-Tropes tier joke about Stormtroopers being useless and take it seriously.

Lol not even in the novels now. Wendig and his lot made sure of that. We have reached the lowest low… The movie wasn't as terrible as we had hoped and that's worse because its not even laughably bad, its just horribly mediocre to the point of being so unmemorable that the only thing you can remember about it is all the nostalgia scenes. It's my single biggest issue with Rogue One. I don't care that they kept missing the Burger King Kids' Club since invisible plot armor shielding main characters is a rooted convention both in Star Wars in particular and epics in general. It's that what's supposed to be elite and comprehensively trained infantry struggles to get put down space Bedouins despite the Empire's rules of engagement assuredly not being lenient. I was genuinely surprised when the black rebel backing up Donnie Yen's character got mowed down in an attempt at heroism.

It sort of torches any sense of triumph gained from defeating a military juggernaut when it only starts to be threatening after they lose 200 soldiers to bottlenecking and decide to spawn a gorillion walkers.

>>719

To be fair, he was fighting a Jedi master with expertise in defensive lightsaber combat in IV and Luke, while talented, was still a wannabe in V. These are terrified normies, so it makes sense to me that Vader could cut loose on them.

>>722

I haven't read the Wingding novels and don't plan on it. I have, however, listened to the audiobook versions of some other post-reboot novels. Battlefront: Twilight Company and Lords of the Sith depicted stormtroopers and the Royal Guard with intimidating presence.

>>724

Man, I said months ago on /starwars/ that it was lame for the rules of lightsaber physics to be changed so that anyone could pick them up and wing it only to be dogpiled by people citing Han's golf club swing in V as proof that it should always have been this way.

>>733

And for the last time, she was never his wife. This was another instance of Marvel trying improve sales with false controversy. They posed as a married couple while cooperating on a job, but the crazy bitch read more into it than Han ever did.

As far as Vader fighting in the OT, his fight against obi wan probably had him psyched out a bit. He's been waiting for twenty years for this moment and here it is. Plus the last time he was with Obi wan he got royally high grounded, so it makes sense he'd be a little cautious around him.

And with Luke he was never trying to kill Luke he was always trying to turn him. If Vader went off on Luke like any Order 66 Jedi we wouldn't have a happy ending in the OT

Its almost as if the first film was made in the 1970's, special effects weren't as developed, they didn't have fight choreographers or stunt men trained in sword fighting, and then 40 years went by and they decided to show something a little more interesting.

It's a real shame because I quite like the way the new battle droid things look and behave, but now that they can be programmed with almost jedi-like reflexes by fugitives on a shoestring budget it really begs the question why the empire doesn't just use droid armies now.

>>720

So Vader's new favorite stronghold is built on top of some of his worst memories? I seriously hope this just one of Sheev's intentional jokes rather than just careless writing. It's a good looking location for an imperial base but definitely not one that makes sense for Vader as an individual.

 No.795>>814

Negative. In 77 they could had show Vader in action if they liked. Luke swinged his lightsaber in RTOJ against Jabba's goons, the effects where not that hard to pull on screen, even back there.

Droids can be reprogrammed just like that. Easier for a rogue commander to field private armies for his rebellion. Indoctrinated soldiers like the stormtroopers are harder to defect, in theory. The same reason why clone armies were banned.

He started becoming lazy after a car accident about 13 years ago. The accident left him mostly bedridden for a year or so. During this time he still stayed upbeat and like the man I once admired, but once he started recovering thanks to therapy, he slowly began declining, becoming more lazy, devoid of energy and effeminate. I thought life changing accidents were supposed to make people want to appreciate their life… Regardless, he began losing interest in all his old media and collections and he also started lying more frequently. Facebook then came into his life and he started becoming even more distant and "mainstream/hip". From there he mostly just used his old collections to show off rather than treat them with the fondness and love he once had for them and would start selling any of things he once spoke of to me like treasures simply to make room for limited edition Barbies and creepy anatomically correct human dolls of celebrities (he used to never give a shit about celebrities). Today he's nothing but a hollow shell of the attentive and loving father I once knew. He rarely even speaks to me after I finished High School, and even less after I moved out. I assume his accident had something to do with it, but he never made anything evident and the change was slow. Its like he basically became part of the YOLO crowd and started ignoring or selling away anything that had depth or lore in it, like his SW material, Tolkien books, Dune and his vintage 1980s animes like Guyver. He was also one to always talk about a movie in great detail after it ended, but about 8 years ago he lost all interest and he would ignore any inconsistency or complex but interesting topic in a movie worth talking about with "its just a movie, they'll tell us the truth in the sequel".

No. The change was slow and evident. Many in the family noticed it too. Even his college friend who came to visit him 4 years ago said something similar: "you've changed man. What happened to you? You used to be so lively and inquisitive." "I guess its just old age." "Dude we're the same age". He even used to have all sorts of friends and fellow "nerds" who would come over and exchange novels and merch with him. They even kept visiting after his accident but every time they would come over my dad became less interested in talking about the "nerdy" subjects they once loved and eventually they stopped visiting and my dad seemingly became a recluse, only hanging out on Facebook or with his 2 co-workers, who were… very feminine. Well, that's fucking stupid and something that should be discarded. Most of the EU trying to expand on Vader's character was pretty ass, actually. One of the good things to come out of the reboot has been striking that shit from the record along with Sheev's Skeletor-tier villainy. Happier to have him back to genociding sand niggers like in >>746

Don't get me wrong, though. I'm pretty sure it's only a matter of time before Disney drops its pants and sharts all over my favorite Legends era (3000+ years BBY), but at the very least I can enjoy some of new Sith stuff before they piss off the other half of the old EU fanbase.

And in exchange every other villain is a fucking Skeletor/Dr. Claw parody. Grievous, Thrawn, Dooku, Ventress and every one else shaking their fist in defeat with a promise of getting them next time. It was not worth it.

>>Grievous

What's he been in since the sellout?

>>Thrawn

Is releasing the Ghost crew because he wants them to "be the architects of their own demise." Notice that he never shakes his fist and always lets them off with a shit-eating grin instead.

I'm not sure about Dooku, either, but Ventress has only popped up in that one novel where she's already forsworn the Dark Side and become an anti-hero with Quinlan Voss, right? Did Dooku go far out of character either in that book or the Darth Maul comics?

I mean, even before the reboot Dooku's motivations and personality flipped around a bit depending on who was writing him. Was he a true believer in interspecies solidarity against the Republic or trying to lay the groundwork for "An Empire of Men?" Was he genuinely surprised when Sheev told Anakin to lop off his head? Did he turn to the Dark Side out of disgust for the Jedi and Republic thinking it would help him accomplish something greater or was he only ever selfishly positioning himself as the heir to Palpatine's schemes?

I never binged on Dooku lore, so it's possible I'm missing something.

Not the guy you responded to but since I'm assuming I'm the biggest and only Grievous fan on this board I'll let you know the damage to old boy since (((the mouse))) "took over:

The EU Wipe took away all the cool shit he did basically. Hypori, his personal kills of upwards of 50 Jedi (never mind those his troops killed in battle), the billions of beings he killed in bombing campaigns, his storming of Coruscant to kidnap Sheev from three Jedi and the list goes on. We don't even have a canon backstory for him anymore just that vague shit said in The "Lair of Grievous" clone wars episode which almost implied that his original shuttle story was not canon. Super vague but, but his story has been in limbo since that episode aired essentially.

So all that's canon for him right now is the CG Clone Wars show, Mauls comic where he gets to kill Talzin (admittedly he's pretty cool in this, shame the arc never made it to animation) ROTS and its novelisation, and I think a fleeting appearance in Kanans comic. The majority of which all make him look like a huge vagina. And the shittiest thing is I know all that was for nothing since the mouse won't even revisit the era before ROTS ever, so all that pre empire EU was wiped for fuck all.

>mfw the (((mouse))) does this to a character I've loved since I saw ROTS in theaters when was 9 all to appease middle aged fanboys who had thier midlife crises over "muh prequels r bad"

"The Star Wars Story Group will not interfere with Old Republic canon out of respect for Bioware and the world they created, as well as the SWSG also worked with Bioware on SWTOR. Its already de facto canon, just not de jure canon."

Thanks for the overview. I didn't read many Clone Wars stories, so the greatest hits of Grevious that weren't shown in the movies or cartoons were mostly unknown to me.

The only thing I don't blame on Disney, though, is the tossing of the Tartakovsky 2D cartoon. I suppose they made it binding and official, but really the genesis of that was with big G himself. By the time he decided that Ventress was born Dathomiri and pissed in the eye of everyone who developed lore for Rattatak, it was pretty clear that he had no intention of paying attention to or honoring Star Wars: The Clone Wars as canon. I remember the Wookipedia talk pages were a real cringe show as constipated geeks flamed each other over how to reconcile the two cartoons for awhile refusing to accept that the retcons were only going to keep building up.

>>837

I know that Hypori and its devastation plays a part in the novel meant to be a prequel to Rogue One. The main characters are depicted fleeing for their lives as Battledroids have their way with anything combustible.

>>840

Can I ask where you got that quote? I'd like to think they were just shrugging and bringing at least half of the old EU back, but even Hidalgo, who has a boner for Revan, treats it like an AU at best and only raids it for stuff to re-insert with a wink and a nod at various opportunities. Like, they made Rakata Prime and Tython canon planets but that doesn't mean anything that happened on those planets are back in the official lore.

Don't get me wrong, I WANT TO BELIEVE, but while they've put the Sith Empire logo and Mandalorian Neo-Crusader armor in comic books, they've also come within a hair's breadth of changing the whole history of the Hundred Years Darkness.

>>842

They give no fucks about SWTOR whatsoever as long as nobody at BioWare does something completely outrageous that stretches the identity of the brand like give Force-sensitive classes the ability to fly Dragonball style or claim that Revan is Luke's ancestor.

The latest expansions for SWTOR take the story in such a wild direction otherwise that it may as well be its own alternate universe within the Legends brand.

You're welcome m80,though I will never see the 2-D series as anything but canon. I own it all on DVD and there's actually a massive time skip in the middle of season two that totally allows for the 3-D show to begin, run its course in its entirety, end, and the 2-D show picks up again. Sort of like the 2-D cartoon is the very beginning and the very end of the war. Nothing super bold about canon is said explicitly in the show since it's so dialogue light, so Ventress can still be dathormiri, etc.

I will never budge on that being canon to me since it was what got me into EU stuff when I was a wee CISscum. Funny enough the first EU thing I ever saw was Grievous raping face at Hypori when I was 8, so I'm pretty attached to that show and will view it as canon however I can.

I really liked this movie, a lot.

Did a great job of fixing mistakes from the prequels, and tying it together with the original trilogy. The god awful humor from episode 7 is no longer present. While it lacks the subtlety of the best humor the OT has to offer, it is none invasive, doesn't destroy the tone. Saw it in 3D with dirty glasses so I missed lots of the visuals, but the poetry worked this time. It wasn't pointless. The music was great, obviously lots of old music, but it never fully reached the end of any of them, at the climax of the most memorable points it cut's short, that was pretty cool.

Also, it's abundantly clear the empire is America in this movie. When they are in a middle eastern village they have stuff like troops marching down the street with tanks, There are towel heads attacking them and such, but it was subtle enough. Also the blast from the Death Star was a mushroom cloud.

Overall, good movie, delve deeper into the Star Wars universe, good music, good actors, better humor.

It started off very weak as a series and in retrospect it's a miracle that it lasted long enough to actually get better. I didn't watch it much at the time, so I plowed through the whole thing this year to get a proper understanding of it. That guide is pretty much on point if you're only looking for the higher quality content, but you might miss things by skipping so much. If you've ever got a lot of time to kill, I found Clone Wars to be a decent way to do it even with the mediocre episodes.

The only recommendation I would add is the Season 5 arc with Secret Weapons/A Sunny Day in the Void/Missing in Action/Point of No Return because despite starting off as quite a boring and wacky arc, it leads to some really touching moments as well as some impressive cinematography in the second part.

In my opinion it went from being a show that shouldn't have been made to a show that shouldn't have ended. A lot of loose ends get left behind because of the Disney deal happening so suddenly. We also missed out on a lot of planned crossovers with older EU content. The only good thing about the gap at the end is that Genndy's Clone Wars rounds it off quite nicely with it's pre-Revenge of the Sith arc.

if you paid attention to the dialogue, it's mentioned that once the empire started looting the temples, the two didn't guard a fucking thing anymore and just became street bums.

>The only good idea was why there was a problem in the Death Star but guess what everyone dies, why didn't Jyn tell anyone at the Rebel base? The same Rebel base Luke Skywalker will be less than a month from now.

again, if you paid attention, you would have realized that the initial plan was to get galen erso and have him testify in front of the senate. then, that plan changed when that one rebel dude decided that killing him would be best. on top of that, jyn was the only person to see the recording galen made, and as cassian says, one person's testimony without any sort of proof would not work in her favor.

>Instead the Rebels say they have reviewed the plans and found a weakness. The Imperials find the weakness after the Rebels have gone through the trench a few times.

that was the point of the exhaust port, it was a small and generally unnoticeable thing. rebel leaders in rogue one were never informed of the weakness in the station since everyone died.

>That ramming ship while a neat idea had terrible execution, how is a ship so small able to push such a larger ship with bigger engines and reactors?

think of a tug pushing a passenger liner in a port. same shit, only in space. also, given that it's fucking space, and you know zero gravity and that shit, a feather could push a bowling ball. l2science please?

I don't think I explained myself well enough

>>about the Temple guard

Was he the only one? If so or not he'd be very valuable to the Empire. Since the EU is dead I can't cite parts of it but seeing how it would still seem part of Vader's mission to hunt down all force users to either become subjects of the Empire or eliminate threats it is strange he went unnoticed while I'm sure force users of the Empire raided the Temple and he can't use the force so they would know he is there. Star Wars Rebels is cannon and look at all the Inquisitors running around.

>>Jyn telling everyone

Doesn't Jyn tell anyone at Rebel Base of the Death Star's weakness? She saw the hologram before going back to meet them and she was with another Rebel that could back her up.

Also how do you explain these lines?

@1:50 "Where are those transmissions you intercepted"

@3:55 "Several transmissions were beamed to this ship by Rebel spys"

Why do they check the main computer for the plans?

We see Vader going after soldiers who are holding the plans, his goal isn't trying to find "the plans" but ensuring that the plans don't escape from his grasp.

>>tug

A tug only works because the larger ship isn't trying to fight it, normally there are more than one and they don't move ships a whole lot merely keep them on course by pushing and pulling by a small amount while the larger ship does the heavy lifting.

>>on science

Even in the New **shitty* Lore I'm sure a Star Destroyer's Reactor is larger than that ship's, so unless it has a magical power supply there is no way it would be able to generate the needed acceleration to change the velocity vector of that Star Destroyer quickly enough as shown.

I'm almost to the point of giving up care on all of The Star Wars, and it's EU, I see now George Lucas was right in selling out since fans bitch so much about original concepts and original art of the prequels when all they wanted were AT-STs in an urban environment or that one other planet where it was raining a lot. So memorable.

Enjoy your dead of new lore universe with DLCs for dead games and SJW stories that'll be cringe worthy a decade from now

chirrut isn't a force user at say, the status of a jedi, so he's very much under the radar. i mean ffs the guy has to pray for the force to work to his advantage. he has no idea how to properly channel it.

as for the dialogue in ANH, the plans were beamed to the mon cal cruiser, then delivered into the tantive, yes. it's a stretch here, but technically the plans were "beamed" to the tantive. idk, nobody gets everything right unless they're us.

>tug

the star destroyer was disabled, a floating hulk. i was actually thinking about the scene in esb, where the ion cannon shoots one, and it begins to sort of sink in space. the only reason i can think of as to why that didn't happen in rogue one, besides the plot, is that the planetary shield on scarif somehow cut out the gravitational pull of the planet. either way, the star destroyer was completely offline, so yeah all it needed was a push in the right direction.

also, the new lords of canon are clearly incompetent morons, otherwise EAfront would have had weapons reload and not overheat.
