It's more likely to be pressure from Disney rather than fan feedback that forced DICE to start shifting from their original vision for the rebooted Battlefront franchise, that being Battlefield-lite with flashy effects. DICE's first Battlefront disappointed in sales and playerbase, and so far it's been the only big non-mobile and non-lego Star Wars game that EA has made with it's exclusive licensing deal. For Disney that must really piss them off.
We're four years on from the death of LucasArts. Disney was convinced they didn't need them after the purchase and that the future was all in brand new EA-made Star Wars games. The back catalog of games was in complete limbo apart from GOG occasionally getting to patch them up. Then suddenly, just last month Disney starts restoring official multiplayer servers for decade-old games: first Empire at War and now Battlefront 2. That demonstrates how little faith Disney has left in EA to keep the Star Wars gaming community alive.
Disney's disappointment is probably one of the driving factors behind DICE doing a complete turnaround on core game features from the original Battlefronts that they intentionally left out the first time. Not just eras, but also soldier classes and singleplayer content. And now Disney wants to add even more pressure on the new game by splitting DICE's multiplayer community with the original Battlefront 2.
Nothing could make me buy EA's products, but things are certainly getting spicy between Disney and EA. I can't wait to see how much worse their working relationship is going to get towards the end of their contract.
