Alright /strek/ you've been put in charge of the very expensive, but chronically under-performing Star Trek reboot. You've got ultimate authority, you can do what you have to save the studio's shekels. Or do you wipe the slate clean, and consign the reboot to history?

If it was after the first film you may have a chance, but after Into Dankness it was a lost cause.

I knew Into Darkness was going to be shit when EVERY trailer had that quick glimpse of Alice Eve's body. I mean, it's an amazing body, but if you need to keep hyping it as the reason to buy a ticket, then there's something desperately wrong with the writing.

Beyond was meh at best.

i stopped watching after into darkness, but i'd say it was beyond saving since the beginning

Can we all agree that Karl Urban's McCoy was a genuine masterpiece?

Only way forward. Everything Jew Jew has done needs to be erased.

I don't think it's possible to save the Jewjew timeline. They tried with Beyond but it was too late. I wish they made a show set in that universe, it would've helped a lot on the world building side, something that is really missing in the JJ-verse.

Nope, just like JJ killed Star Wars and Star Trek and even now working on killing Team Fortress 2 it can't be saved, none of it can. Abrams is the reason why HL3 will never come out.

The problem with Jar Jar Abrams is that he isn't a bad director as such, but he is completely devoid of everything and anything required to be a good director. He can do a constructed movie that hits all the points it needs to and can easily become a decent trailer but he simply cannot do a movie that people will remember once they walk out from seeing it. He's kinda like Bay in that regard; he's a safe bet, but that's all. I can't think of anything worse than Abrams being behind the wheel of anything as it's a sure bet of well made, forgettable mediocrity that's solely motivated by the goal of turning trailer views into box office profits.

Bay is at least fun

JewJew is just reddit the director, copying other people's ideas and claiming them as his own.

I'd start over entirely. I'd also wait a while, until a good new Trek show has been on the air for a few seasons.

f43c66 (2) No.7603>>7627 >>7795

I think the main problem is that their business model is completely wrong. They are trying to turn Star Trek into capeshit to earn big money in short term. So they end up paying for it as for big capeshit movies to compete with them, but whereas a typical successful capeshit has no problem turning in $700b or more, the best performing Star Trek can't get past $500b.

Star Trek isn't Star Wars. The audience just isn't there. The fan base is smaller, more demanding, but also more loyal and with bigger disposable income. So what they need to do is they need to slowly, and consistently build their brand. Not to shit all over it, like they are doing now, and say stupid things like Trek fans don't matter, they will watch it anyway, or this isn't your father's Star Trek. It's much easier to sell your products to existing customers, than to new ones.

So in practical terms, the movies should be cheaper and smaller, but with better writing, that is consistent with the existing Star Trek tone and spirit, and tied with a TV show. The goal of the movies should be to support the brand first, making big money from the movies alone should be secondary. When they satisfy the existing fan base, only then can they hope to gain new fans in the process.

The problem is that Star Trek is managed by two different companies that hate each other. And people in these companies see Star Trek as nothing more than a cash cow, that can be used to make short term money, or to promote their shitty streaming service. So I think this has to change first if Star Trek is to become great again.

Star Wars fans are pretty autistic and demanding, I would argue moreso than Trek fans. There are episodes of Star Trek dorkier than the Star Wars holiday special, but Star Trek fans don't act like the existence of them is some grave insult.

Imagine you aren't JJ Abrams and you need to make a Star Wars film. Now remember that most of your fans are Mike Stoklasa or feel exactly like he does. Can you make a Star Wars movie that satisfies him?

f43c66 (2) No.7651

>>7627

Maybe they are more autistic, but the hardcore base matters less for Star Wars, than it does for Star Trek. Star Wars can rely on normies more, because it's more accessible to them. Prequels did pretty good despite all the bitching about raped childhoods from people like Stoklasa.

I find that doubtful tbh fam. I never even heard of that guy until the nu ghostbusters shitshow happened.

Overall goal, aim to make a good story first.

>Nitty gritty stuff

I'd perform triage and a review of what can be kept and what can be jettisoned out.

I'd bring back certain rules such as it has to be able to function and stand as it's own complete story. Relying on some moronic "marvel cinematic universe" model is thrown out of the nearest airlock.

Those who makes it into the writing and script team, will be doing their job locked at an Alaskan outpost for 6 months without social media access, until the script is finished. Internet access is heavily monitored north korean style, to make sure it's only used for research or reference purposes. Writing team is allowed to bring books and other non interactive media.

>but who makes it into the writing team tho

People who are into trek, but also have some life experience and interests outside of the hollywood bubble. If they can't be found in hollywood, then look at fan submissions and try to find the next Ron D Moore if I have to.

>marketing

Fire anyone who wants to do a hostile marketing campaign, up to and including any cast members, or anyone who says with a serious face and intent that "we want this movie to start a conversation about (fill in the latest hashtag cause)".
