Well my personal story is this:
>2008ish
>Free Comic Book Day! With signing by William Shatner!
>super jazzed; I'd been watching Boston Legal
>get to the store, stand in line for hours
>Shatner arrives late
>does not address the crowd, stop for photo ops, or talk to anyone
>will only sign this one particular comic, which isn't really a comic but a sampler of comics he's personally involved in (I forget exactly how)
>procedure is as follows
>1 write the name you want him to sign to on a post-it note
>2 attach said post-it note to your sampler comic
>3 continue to wait in line
>4 hand the comic to some other guy
>5 that guy hands it to Shatner
>6 he signs it (does not greet you, does not even look up)
>7 he hands it to another guy
>8 that guy hands it back to you
>9 buy something or fuck off
When I became aware of this bullshit, I changed the name on my post-it to my then-girlfriend's dad's name (since he was a huge TOS fan and the only person in that family with a soul, the poor bastard). Scored me some points and a disappointing beej from the GF.
My brother also had a couple run-ins with him. He used to work a ticket counter for international flights over at LAX. Apparently every time he graced that place with his sainted presence, he made a point of being as much of a self-important ass as possible. I'd have to ask him for details. Supposedly one time his wife was with him and my brother told her what a dick he'd been, so she slapped him a little. Then again, I'm not sure how reliable that story is, so take that for what it's worth.
