Is Barclay a commentary on Star Trek fans?

>doesn't live in reality

>prefers fantasy worlds

>creates fantasy relationships out of characters who barely know him

>fears social interaction

>His life is going nowhere

>Has no real ambition

>lives in probably the safest and most luxurious time period in his race's history and yet isn't the guy who pilots the ship, he's just some guy in engineering

>His coworkers despise him

>was probably a neet and joined Starfleet because his parents kicked him out

>Is Barclay a commentary on Star Trek fans?

I'm not sure, but I do know one thing: he's the only motherfucker who ever used the Holodeck for its destined purpose.

You saw how everyone reacted when he used it right? It's probably like watching porn at work.

Remember DS9 had holosuites and Quark was smart enough to advertise them for their intended purpose

at least he's not wesley

I think he actually surpasses the average neet. He preferred "hard light" which has no mass. Even though it appears 3d, it's actually 0d. Suck on that weebs. Plus, he mistrusted transporters even more than Bones.

>Is Barclay a commentary on Star Trek fans?

I've been pondering this, this evening. I think you might be right, but not entirely in the way you think. Yes, Reg is all that and more, but he's also a little thing we like to called "weaponized autism."

>worried about transporters

>everyone tells him he's just being foolish

<transporter worms try to eat him

>afraid he's coming down with something horrible

>Doc Crusher reassures him it's nothing

<entire crew catches it, turning into humanoid animals, arachnids, insects, fish, etc

>"I can use my newfound hyper-intellect to fix the array!"

>Geordi tells him to quit fucking around.

<interfaces his brain with the Enterprise's computer and fixes the array…and THEN he cucks Riker!

>"I believe I can contact Voyager!"

>"LOL no you can't faggot!"

<risks it all on a longshot and contacts Voyager, impressing the fuck out of Admiral Paris

No one believes him or in him, just because he's a little weird, but he's managed to pull off some miracles over the years. He's underestimated and ridiculed (by Wesley Crusher of all fucking people) but he's capable of amazing things. Just like the fans.

Barclay was actually pretty great to watch all things considered. He's a genius who can't articulate himself well. Guy is pretty much a 24th century Da Vinci in reality with a lot of stuff he invents and comes out with.

True, but since everyone on a starship pretty much lives at their jobs, you can't really blame the guy. Not to mention that Riker and Geordi did the same damn thing, but treated Reg like shit for it because he was late for work a couple times.

>>2944

That's the best thing about Barclay. He was made as a friendly poke at the fanbase, a minor joke at the fans' expense, yet he rose above his stereotypes and became one of the most successful and memorable characters in the franchise. While Wesley, on the other hand, was Gene Roddenberry's self-insert, the golden boy, the chosen one, yet he became the single most hated and rejected character in the franchise. I bet that really pissed off Gene.

Neelix was one of the best friends that crew ever had. They'd have been dead several times over without him.

This is how it is to be intelligent among the hordes of baseline imbeciles.

No one believes you, because they have no idea what you are talking about. They claim things are impossible when you know there is a strong possibility or that you have already done them.

What seems simple to you, is fantasy to them.

I'd like to watch these episodes, I don't remember seeing any of them.
