"The Quickening was meant to be an AIDS allegory"

That's pozzed up enough, AND deceptively done enough for me to beleive Chuck on this one. And goddamn is it retarded.

also, general SFDebris thread

So you're saying it's speculation?

I also like how the prime directive was blatantly ignored here, the prime directive isn't supposed to just apply to pre-warp civilizations. they use this excuse for not fucking with the klingon/romulan governments multiple times.

>The Prime Directive

>AKA: The 'we wanted more tension in this scene but couldn't be bothered creating it' Directive

>AKA: The 'we need a reason that the heroes can't just fix things with a negative, polarity reversed, transwarp induction thingamajiggy' Directive.

>AKA: The 'Star Trek always does this, the fans will love it, right?' Directive.

It's one of the more overused and hacky plot conveniences, but it can be made to serve an interesting part of the lore if you assume it was Star Fleets way of making sure their captains actually did their job rather than running off to play god with the natives on planet Shi'thole VII.

if it's an AIDS allegory, it's a flimsy one. and in the review he even says how they would normally be all in favor with assisted suicide on star trek, if not for the progressive stack (AIDS being gawd's punishment for being gay etc).

>woman gives birth

>quark advertisement plays

that was pretty cool. anyway yea, I watch almost all his reviews. even downloaded and saved some of the really old ones when he was still allowed to post to yudentube.

The Prime Directive is an objective evil rule.

Oh and Chuck actaully gave this episode a fucking 3 out of 10. What in the fuck, Chuck?! Is you trolling? This was a pretty damned good episode.

Can't you do anything right?

not quite. he's being more fair to it than most anyone else here would be (he does have to pull his punches when it comes to sjw darlings it seems), but he slams it when it's undeniably called for.
