So I got thinking about the various Star Trek maps out there especially of the Alpha Quadrant and just noticing how conflicting a lot of them are along with how wrong most of them appear. In particular I get triggered by the fact that none of the commonly accepted maps out there for example do not have the Cardassians sharing a border with the Romulans when they should have, especially considering Romulans were meant to be neighbors of that race and during the Dominion War they would cross Romulan space to strike at Federation targets across the Neutral Zone.
Which made me question how should a Star Trek map appear? What would it look like? It would need to account for a lot of information with a few essentials but there is also plenty of information left up in the air.
Information that's noted as canon and must be included:
>Federation share a border with the Klingons, Romulans, and Cardassians,
>Klingons share a border with the Federation and Romulans
>Romulans share a border with the Federation, Klingons and Cardassians
>Cardassians share a border with the Federation and Romulans
>Bajor is near the Federation-Cardassian border
>Organia is between the Federation-Klingon border
Non-canon information often taken as canon:
>Gorn share a border with the Romulans
>Tholians share a border with the Romulans, Federation and Klingons.
Information hinted at but not confirmed:
>Benzar is near the Romulan-Cardassian border in Federation space
>Breen are within easy striking distance of Earth
>Klingons have a secure way to Cardassian space that is not through Federation territory
>Klingons have a way to Breen Space
>Ferenginar is not too far away from Bajor
>Betazed is near the Cardassian border
>Khitomer is near the Klingon-Romulan border
>Nimbus 3 is located in the neutral zone, either Klingon or Romulan.
Can you anons think of any information to add that would aid in creating a map? I know there are dozens of other races that are canon that have yet to be included for example; the Talarians, Tamarians, Tzenkethi, Xindi and so on.
Considering the information that also needs to be processed I am not sure a 2D map will do, it may have to be 3D if it gets very complicated.
