Yes, I'm deeply concerned about the same thing.
It did occur to me that there might be a way to make background checks compatible with liberty. What if we required every citizen to be background checked at every driver's license renewal and then marked the DL only of those not firearms eligible (convicted felons, for instance).
Then gun sellers could just check driver's licenses like liquor stores do for booze sales. There would be no record of who purchased firearms, so our liberty would be safe, but gun sellers would have an easy way to know who should not be buying firearms.
