Hi /prog/ I want to learn C# and I googled a bit and found C# in a nutshell.

Is it a good place to start or are there more appropriate books?

I should say that i'm not completely new to programming but besides the basics I haven't got much knowledge.

i don't see the point in learning programming from a book.

there are tutorials to teach you the basic syntax and commands and once you are far enough to start your own projects virtually all your questions are answered by stackoverflow questions that you can find through google.

C# in a Nutshell is a great book, but I think its intended more for use as a reference book than as a learn from the beginning book. It has explanations and examples, but it does not have any exercises or recommended projects.

You said you have some experience, so you should be fine with it. Download it here and see if its what you want: http://www.it-ebooks.info/book/831/

If you are just starting out however, I would recommend a book aimed at beginners. One that includes exercises so that you can immediately implement what you learned.

I started out with an earlier edition of this book: http://www.it-ebooks.info/book/3794/ (Microsoft Visual C# 2013 Step by Step)

Try it and see if it interests you.

If you're like me and have a short attention span (most programming books are kind of dry), or just wouldn't mind a short summary for each concept after you work your way through a chapter, take a look at these tutorials.

They're very good.
