S8 is looking like it's going to be rock bottom of the show. There wasnt even anything worthwhile at the conclusion, like if Applejack was trolling Rainbow with a joke it would have still been a better fun conclusion than "Fuck AJ shes over protective and doesnt even know her own family"

I started watching all of the old episodes too just to see how much of a change it's been from S8 and I get more enjoyment out of seeing the reruns than the new direction. The writers dont know how to write for the mane6 anymore and if these episodes are going to be how it is, then I would be okay with more focus on the Student6 than a complete middle finger to the original characters.
At least next episode will probably have more cute seaponers.

Why people hate this season so much? Sure is worse than the last one so far but I never thought the first 2 were much better, I think you all are just growing out of it.
This is why the MLP fandom wasn't meant to last, if anything I am impressed it went strong for 3 years. You people must not watch a lot of cartoons just anime and Netflix with mlp being an outlier, I watch plenty of cartoons and mlp is still one of the better ones, in fact I really didn't liked season 2 being overly preachy yet is the most loved by fans.

That is true without a doubt. The thing is that guys initially got into the show precisely because it was so much better than other cartoons. Saying that it is good for a cartoon is just comparing it to trash that we would not voluntarily watch unless we were drunk and wanted a laugh. Thus, the bar for MLP is set way the hell higher than it is for normal kids' shows. You would compare it to Rick and Morty while I would have it in the company of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

There were a lot fewer lessons in Season Two than there were in Season One. Season Two still had the letters-to-Celestia format, so every episode that featured the Six (excepting "Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000) had some moral to the story. Some of the lessons, like one ones in "Sweet and Elite" and "Putting Your Hoof Down," were outstanding while others like those in "The Mysterious Mare-do-well" and "A Friend In Deed" were less than inspiring.
They did need to drop the lessons just because they were unsustainable, but the great thing about them was that they kept the stories focused on interpersonal activity. It was the key to the whole friendship arc. Without the lessons, the connection to the theme of friendship is tenuous.

"The Cutie Mark Chronicles" filler? Hell no! That one looked like it ate the budget from both "Show Stoppers" and "Owl's Well That Ends Well." It used every voice actress in the cast, introduced a bunch of new places, required models for each of the Six as fillies, and featured a song. It may have been the most expensive episode of the season until "The Best Night Ever." That was clearly one of the focal episodes of Season One.

I seem to recall reading that "A Bird In the Hoof" had to reuse the Benny Hill routine from "Ticket Master" due to budgetary problems. I still like the episode mostly for the dynamics that it added to the canon. That episode gave birth to the notion that Celestia routinely screws with her subects' heads for her own amusement, and Twilight's pannicky fear of displeasing Celestia would become one of her most mysterious defining traits. That episode also had one of my favorite jokes of the year: the bit where Twilight and Fluttershy are looking for Philomena by picking up their friends and checking underneath them.
