It's really hard to explain irrationality in a rational manner, but let me try :
I had inadvertently caused a great deal of pain to some of my friends,SO I DECIDED TO REMOVE MY INDEX FINGER
I told you, it's hard to explain irrational thought in a rational manner…
So… I took a cast iron 'T Frame Bar', and laid my finger across it, and I grabbed a 15 Pound Sledgehammer….

I got away with murder by being able to draw…
and I was SO RIDDLED WITH GUILT about inadvertantly hurting my friends that I decided "I DESERVE TO LOSE MY FINGER, SO I CAN NEVER DRAW OR PAINT AGAIN !!"

I threw this graphic together to illustrate it, because I wasn't exactly in a position to stop and photograph what I had just done to my hand..

and I took off all my clothes
and went out onto the balcony
of my 6th floor apartment

he and I are still friends to this day…………………
he calmly explained that he had prevented me from being shipped off to a psychiatric unit
he told me "whatever is happening in your life, GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF!"
and I listened intently
