Reject The Student Loans Racket, Debt Obligation Not Worth It
Predators thrive on Americans' short memories. Student loans in their present scale did not exist prior to 1994. According to the Federal Reserve FRED database, the student loan balance was zero in 1993.
From zero in 1993 to $1.728 trillion in 2021: this is the predatory financialization of higher education which has enriched lenders, Wall Street and the Higher Education Cartel. As I've noted before, such parasitic rapaciousness would have been criminal a few generations ago; now it's cheered as a reliable source of profits by Wall Street and treated as business as usual by the corporate-owned media.
If America somehow managed to educate millions of college students without burdening them with $2 trillion in debt in 1993, why is it now "impossible" to do so, even as America's wealth and gross national product (GDP) have both rocketed higher over the past 27 years?
America is now a moral cesspool, and student loans prove it. Note that the $1.728 trillion isn't the entire load of debt crushing students; that's only the securitized student loans. Wily sharpsters have found all sorts of private-debt niches which they sell as "student loans" but which are actually consumer loans. Then there's the credit card debt from card issuers giving students "student-only cards." Add it all up and the total likely exceeds $2 trillion.
Monopolies, cartels, profiteers and insiders always have a raft of excuses and justifications for their exploitation of the powerless, and all those profiting from the $2 trillion have the usual excuses plus a novel set of noble-sounding academic rationalizations.
Journalist Matt Taibbi lays waste to one slice of the student loan racket in The Trillion-Dollar Lie (courtesy of correspondent Joel W.), the legal foundation of the entire parasitic swindle: "students can't escape student loans in bankruptcy court." But suppose the legal edifice were to recognize that universities are not "non-profits" but are instead a racketeering cartel?
While crying poor, universities have pursued a construction boom of trophy buildings without precedent and piled up slush funds with hundreds of millions of dollars extracted from student debt-serfs. If this doesn't make your blood boil, then you must be swimming laps in America's moral cesspool, praising the putrid stench as "the smell of money."
It doesn't have to be this way.

Nope. I'm retired. Back in the day I dropped out of high school and was still able to get jobs, from hardware stores to working at a local mill and for a while warehouse delivery for automotive repair shops. I saved up what I could and never went deep into debt, paid off my mortgage and live just fine never having much of an education! If you ask me, the educational system has become corrupted and is screwing your generation over BIG TIME.

It is a huge racket today, just like everything else in this country, these institutions were consumed by the corrupted. The only thing a college degree may be good for is getting into a specific technical high paying position in society, such as being a doctor or lawyer. Outside that, well more than half the degrees today are totally utterly worthless and you'll be stuck paying off that debt. Most youth won't pay attention and most parents don't seem to care anymore though, regardless all the warnings and obvious red flags.

Outstanding student loan debt is at $1.6 trillion, which used to be a lot of money until the Federal Reserve decided that the stock market must be saved at all or any cost. These are signature loans from young people who have no collateral. No sane person would make such loans. Naturally, the federal government encouraged it.
The federal government encouraged it because colleges are great lobbyists. They have alumni roaming the halls of Congress. They can offer teaching jobs. They can publish your books.
Democrats and RINOs love colleges. Colleges meanwhile are little bureaucratic beehives.
Harvard at 385 years is the oldest college in America. It has 13,000 employees in 10 unions. 2,400 are on faculty.
While it claims it needs its $41 billion endowment fund to keep its doors open, the endowment keeps growing. The joke is Harvard's endowment fund is a edge fund with a college attached to it.
If tuition ($52,000) and other student fees cover only 22% of your expenses, and less than 20% of your staff are faculty members, maybe you should reduce spending.
Student loans helped fatten colleges up. Colleges are sitting on $637.7 billion in endowment assets.
Surely, some of that money could be used to forgive the student loans that helped keep 13,000 people on staff when only 2,400 of them are faculty.
Socialists say soak the rich. Socialists just happen to run the colleges. Conservatives should point out that colleges are rich. 100 colleges have endowments worth $1 billion or more.
Soak them.
