Post your favourites that aren't the obvious picks like Sunn O))) or Earth, though I won't stop you if you want to post that. What got you into the genre?

There's the problem, though: those big bands are practically the only ones that are musically interesting (at least that I've ever found). Other than Sunn O))), Earth, Boris, Khanate and maybe one or two more well-known bands I'm forgetting, so much of it is just people playing one riff over and over for 30 minutes, and all the chord are power chords in a low drop tuning, and all the riffs are almost identical to what those bigger bands have already done.

Here's a thing that isn't that though. This guy's interesting. I think the recorded version sounds a little better (and funnily enough Alan Dubin from Khanate did guest vocals on this song on the album) but it doesn't seem to be on YouTube.

Check out the band in my embed. It's really great

Don't really like this bullshit, generally, but Moss has its moments.

You see, it isn't really a genre. It's more of a gimmick, a spinoff of the metal genre, which Sunn O))) or Earth did a really good job at.

When people listen to them they think "I can do this too!", because it is so easy to do. And more importantly, its also very fun to do. But they will always be the lesser interesting sounding Sunn O))) or Earth because they just copy the gimmick.

I copied the gimmick with my band. Here's a shameless plug.

Nigga what

It really is just drone music combined with doom metal, what makes it non-legit?

 No.93648

>>93638

Who says it is non-legit?

I am just saying that you can hardly define it as a genre because it is a simple gimmick, which you described yourself; making drone music with the metal aesthetics.

It's a genre though, it would be stupid to think of grunge is a genre of its own while drone metal with its noticeable differences from doom metal isn't.

Not like it's the first time we crossed 2 genres and called it a new one

I wouldn't call grunge a genre either, the music that is labeled grunge is too diverse to fit into one genre, capturing a whole range of punk/ metal bands originating mostly from Seattle. Screaming Trees, Pearl Jam and Nirvana sound so different yet they are all labeled grunge.

Genre is the umbrella, style is what makes the works distinguishably different from others in the genre.

Genre is metal. Style is drone.

I can live with that.

I'd say Gnaw is good, Black Boned Angel. I'll come back and plug more

yeah funeral doom is obviously superior
