>the absolute death of /mu/
what the fuck happened? I remember it was an active board, on the front page in 2015-2016. Was there an exodus? How can a large board like this die so much? I'd be expecting something like /co/ to croak sooner, but even they still hold on.
Can something be done?

We have this thread every two or three months. If you don't like the state of the board, make quality posts or post quality threads. Sage because this is neither of those things and won't make the board any better.

Maybe if you were actually doing something about it instead of sageing the threads and pretending like it's a quality of posts problem, the board wouldn't be in this state.

Some shilling is necessarily at this point. We're looking at a complete extinction of the music board, this is no laughing matter. There are alternative boards like /vg/ that managed to climb to the top, and yet the main /mu/ is no better than some random /poopnudes/ board made yesterday. Clearly some effort had to be put to revive it.

Making and encouraging OC beyond the ARF threads for one; something that's always bothered me about /mu/ is the lack of OC where /animu/ and /monster/ manage to thrive by encouraging writefags and drawfags to contribute and improve.
>>93388
We have very little in the way of recruit boards to shill on and AHG only brings in short term life with little long term user retention. /v/ and /monster/ do Federation Wrestling/8chanmania events almost very weekend, so I figure we could try something in that style that'd be adapted for /mu/. I'd say if we have any hopes of injecting new life in the board and sustaining that life, we need to branch out somehow and make connections on the site.
One other thing I'd like to bring up is the giant elephant in the room: /mu/'s reputation on imageboards. We're more or less regarded as a shitpost board, or a tumblr tier hugbox at worst, and it makes sense since we are arguably the most normalfag/libshit friendly board. With that in mind, we need to be mindful of what connections we try to make for the board and avoid cancerous shiholes like /leftypol/, /v/ and /a/. pic unrelated

What? a) point out any x-core music on this board. I've never seen any posted here unironically. b) if you can't get over the fact that taste is subjective, maybe you should go to one of those dead metal offshoot boards.

>music quality is purely subjective
No. This mentality is part of why the industry is so fucked. Saying there is nothing objective about what makes music good is spitting in the face of the hundreds of years people have intensely studied and built the art of composition past fucking around with drums and two note flutes. Saying music is purely subjective is putting Bach on the same level as Linkin Park. I don't listen to country, but I can recognize when a lot of effort was put into a country song. I have never heard good newlowavecore whatever the fuck.
I see threads cropping up about heist core, or industiral core, etc. all the time.

The point is: you cannot convince a brainlet Linkin Park fan to listen to Bach from now on regularly, and it depends on really who you ask. There was some kind of survey in both Kendrick's and Drake's hometown about who the better rapper is. And basically the majority picked Drake, so who is right here? We both know Kendrick's music is not on the same plane as Drake

People basically got bored of 8chan, the gamergate bullshit ended. As for the NSFW and /v/ boards this is still relevant, but for /mu/fags there was really no reason to stay here so they all went back to cuckchan. SJWs didn't really affect the music board as much. Also, many of us grew up and stopped posting on imageboards, and unlike on 4chan, there is no resupply of newfags, once we all leave, no one is going to replace us. Subjectists genuinely need to hang from ropes.
They've ruined the art world, they've ruined architecture and currently they're ruining music.
At their core they have a point, but when you say absolutely everything is purely subjective you always fall down this path of accepting people like Masami Akita and Jackson Pollock as legitimate artists.

You are delusional, this board sucks and has even worse spam that 4/mu/, and I hate 4/mu/.
And I could go on about how the other threads are just the same regurgitated threads that we also see at 4/mu/, except slower and with less shitposting (which is good, but I'm so fucking tired of always seeing the same fucking bands in the catalog I don't really care if you are shitposting about them or not).

And I'm not interested in making my own board, my whole critique was that there is no reason to use 8/mu/ when there already is 4/mu/, which is the reason why this board is dead. And later to call out the retard who said 8/mu/ didn't spam Kanye and other stupid shit yet we literally have a Kanye thread on page one and a few others on previous pages (on top of Gorillaz and Death Grips on page 1). This is just like 4/mu/, but slower, and with less shitposting.

Yes, but not when it's done at the expense of less musical exploration.

If you don't like this board enough to visit, and you want it to be a particular way, then are you making it happen, or are you keeping a thread that's barely even related to music at the top of the catalog with no good coming from it and at the expense of your own time and perpetuating the things you don't like about the board instead?

When the first three threads after four stickies are a kanye west, a gorillaz, and a death grips thread, you realize that all hope is lost (bonus, /pol/'s racist/antisemite thread is on page one with almost a hundred replies). I have had more luck at 4/mu/ regardless, based on threads I did here like a year or two ago.
