The production is godawful, so is the drum tone. Lots of bleed, one snare fills up the mix for 1 sec. Not to mention the snare tone, not even gorenoise bands' snares sound so trashy.

The guitars are sitting very low in the mix, it has no punch, the lyrics are edgier than ever, the music was basically nu metal but with no bass and power

I'm in my late 30's and I grew up on metallica, I'd say I was a huge fan and despite being euroslavic, I felt a deep connection to hetfield's huwhite, angloburger pain and anguish. I really though james was /myguy/ so it felt like a huge disappointment when they started to present themselves like huge cucks (Napster, that documentary where they hired an NFL psychologist to coach them, loudness was, st. anger and finally trump).

I'm not saying HtST and Death Magnetic are comparable to anything prior to Load, I'm just saying that those albums have a few gems buried in the junk (kind of like Load and Re-Load if we're being completely honest). St.Anger, on the other hand, is just a steaming pile of rancid, rotting dog shit with zero redeeming qualities.
