8ca0e6 (4) No.340348>>340378 >>340457 [Watch Thread][Show All Posts]

I started assembling some maps to chart among which peoples/in what regions different kinds of monstergirl-likes (that is, animal-human hybrids and other humanoids) are featured in mythology and folklore, but ran out of steam for now, so I'll post what I have.

I limited it to lore that implies or supposes that there is a group---or a whole species—of the creature in question (even if it's a small group, like the three Gorgons), while I ignored instances where a single individual deity or mythological figure might assume that form, but nothing else does.

I also only highlighted areas in which there is some unique-enough variant or derivative of a creature, which is why Italy often shows up blank---the Romans usually just adopted Greek mythology wholesale.

I've been using nothing but Wikipedia so far, and I find it somewhat wanting. I don't believe that Central Asia is this mythologically barren, and China ought to have more random shit as well, but on the pages and categories I searched, I couldn't find anything. I would appreciate if someone could link some good sources to use for further research.

How about we use this thread to assemble links and sources regarding monstergirl-like beings in mythology---your local/ancestral ones, or just ones that you know?

Interestingly, most centaurs or horse-people seem to be male-only.

>most centaurs or horse-people seem to be male-only

Isn't the technical term for a female centaur a "centauride"?

8ca0e6 (4) No.340354

>>340352

Yea: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centaurides

They seem rather rare in Greek mythology though.

Despite the pictures on this page, Kelpies were apparently mostly male, too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelpie#Shapeshifting

The each-uisge/cabyll-ushtey, meanwhile, is basically a bipedal rape horse: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Each-uisge

Likewise the Tikbalang is just an anthro horse, but less rapey.

The Indian variant can be either male or female apparently.

Accourding to wikipedia, hellhounds are moslty found in the British Isles.

Shouldn't lamiai be in Greece as well? Even though Diodorus Siculus describes her as Libyan, the lamia herself is a purely Greek tradition, as far as I am aware.

>>340369

Yeah, you have Cwn Annwn and Gwllygi of Wales, the Manx Moddey Dhoo, the Yorkshire Barguest, the Black Shuck of East Anglia, and the Church Grim, which is the only non-'evil' black dog in folklore I'm aware of.

>Shouldn't lamiai be in Greece as well? Even though Diodorus Siculus describes her as Libyan, the lamia herself is a purely Greek tradition, as far as I am aware.

The horizontal patterning was meant to signify “supposed to live here but the legend originates elsewhere”, but I didn't add a legend, sorry.

I originally meant to do this more often for whenever the stories about a creature told that it lived in some region other than the stories' origin, but that doesn't actually happen often. A lot of Hellenic creatures (like Centaurs) are described as living in areas that were on the fringe of the centres of Hellenic civilisation then, but long since became part of what we consider “Greece”.

>in Japanese mythology, it's said to be a kitsune's wedding

Just give a really short centaur boxing gloves and brown skin, that should do it.

She would be more of a bipedal horsepussy instead of a centaur and have a spiky mane, wouldn't she?

Tikbalangs have really long legs, though. Should it be a petite body on long legs?

I don't know anything about Tikbalangs, I wouldn't know. But a long-legged petite horsepussy sounds cute.

Yeah, Tikbalangs stand on two legs in the traditional myth, so they'd more closely resemble satyrs but shorter, brown, and with horse legs instead of goat ones. And if art of them is anything to go by, they'd be fairly toned. I guess big pecs would translate to big tits for monstergirls?

They would also probably have strong abs and big tits, seems like most centaurs have the latter so that could be assumed to be there.

Alright, cunt. Got one fer ya.

>Dropbears

Dropbears are onerly lil' shielas. They laze around in their tree homes, shitpostin' and slammin' down Foster's. That is until a potential mate is brave and/or stupid enough to venture out into their neck of the woods. Usually it's some dumb tourist. The dropbear than goes outside and starts tracking her prey through the trees until the right moment to strike. She makes sure to spook the dumb bloke first with her rapin' calls. That and to make sure other dropbears know she's huntin'. Then when her prey isn't suspectin', she jumps out of the trees, pins him down, rips off his clothes and brutally rapes him then and there. His cries are enough to let anyone know the damb cunt got himself did in. Aferwards, she drags him up to her tree home to introduce to a proper aussie lifestyle. May or may not use vegemite as lube.
