/monster/ - The Last Bastion of Romance★

Life just hasn't been the same since Cathy moved out. She got a desk job working for some call agency and had been working there over nights, which was nice being a gargoyle and all, but she had made one too many mistakes last night and was fired by her boss on the spot. Now she finds herself moping alone in her tiny apartment, unsure of what to do with herself. She has no friends and her dad lives too far away to bum off of him.

Besides, she has a little money saved up, so she should be okay for a while. As she lay there waiting for time to roll by, her alarm goes off. Sitting up in her bed, she wondered what she should do next.

D. Go back to sleep

Yeah, I can't just stay here feeling sorry for myself, Cathy thought, I need to do something about this. Maybe going into town would be a good place to start looking for a new job?

As she showered and got dressed she began to feel a little better about herself. She put on the hoodie her dad bought her and exited her apartment building.

Well, maybe getting food first would be a good idea? Working to get a job on an empty stomach wouldn't be very productive.

Where to eat? It's gotta be fast food, I'm on a budget here.

Well, it IS freedom day. Burgers are mandatory! Cathy makes her way to the closest Monster Burger, a favorite of hers since it's reasonably priced and now 24/7. The salamander running the cash register takes her order. Maybe she could get a job here? Questions for later, it is now ==BURGER TIME!==

She stuffs her face full of greasy beef, filling her veins with REAL American Cholesterol. As she is about to finish the girthy meat slab, she tries to decide what to do next.

A. Look for employment elsewhere, you don't want to associate your favorite burger joint with work.

B. Apply for a job at Monster Burger, you're not really in a position to be choosy.

C. Get another burger, you're not satisfied with only one, you fat ass.

After grabbing an application Cathy promptly goes back out to the streets. Can't waste any time, gotta look for other possible places to work.

Though, since she's a night owl that might limit her options. She can only think of a few places to try next.

Big Alp's Swole Station. It's actually kind of small to be honest. At least the sign looks nice. Cathy heads in and right to the front desk, barely able to contain her excitement.

"Can I help you?" The young demon girl behind the desk asks, indifferent.

"I want to join your gym so I can smash melons with my thighs!" Cathy blurts out. The young demon's ears perk up, "O-oh okay. But really? You want to join? Let me sign you up!"

"Oh, I mean, I want to work for you." Cathy replies, a little embarrassed.

"Oh. Well, you'll have to talk to Big Alp if you want a job. Donno where they are, so go find 'em."

As Cathy looks to the exercise floor, she notices the gym is lacking in both equipment and patrons. The place doesn't seem to be doing that well.

Cathy then noticed there was a big oni girl doing squats with what she guessed was about 600lbs of weights at the back.

There was also someone in the Yoga room and the Guy Heaven room.

A. Talk to the oni girl, she's clearly Big Alp as the name indicates.

B. Yoga Room, maybe Big Alp likes to do stretching exercises?

Cathy decides that Big Alp is probably in Guy Heaven. Better ask that big oni if she's Big Alp, just in case, she thought.

"Hi," She greeted her. The oni continued her squats, nodding once at Cathy.

"I'm new around here, are you Big Alp?" The oni ignored her. Guess she's not Big Alp. "Okay, see ya around."

Cathy peeped into Guy Heaven and found one "Guy." He didn't look much older than her, and seemed to be doing warm ups. When he looked at her he stopped his curls and stared.

A. "Hi there, are you Big Alp?"

B. "You're obviously not Big Alp, carry on."

C. "Hey, you look like you need a training buddy, Mr. Bones!"

D. "ARE YOU GONNA TRAIN TO POP WATERMELONS, TOO?"

"OH, OH, ARE YOU TRAINING TO POP WATERMELONS WITH YOUR THIGHS, TOO?" Cathy shouted at the guy. He stared at her for a moment, dumbfounded until Cathy decided to pipe up once more, "I could help you, we could be training buddies!"

"No, I'm doing just fine, thanks." He waved her off, making for the stack of barbells. Cathy couldn't help but watch in anticipation as he made to lift one of the heavier barbells. It was pretty obvious he wasn't going to lift it.

A. Just watch it happen.

B. Get ready to spot him, he's gonna need it.

C. Cheer him on, you're gonna be his training buddy after all.

D. Ask him if he's Big Alp, that's why you came back here in the first place.

Cathy gets in position behind the guy, ready to help if he needs it. "Come on, you got this! Put some muscle on your skeleton!" She encouraged him as he struggled to lift the barbell. "You can do it! You can do it! Just don't shit your pants!"

He lets out a shout as he hoists the weight over his head, panting and sweating while Cathy let out a cheer.

"You did it! You're pretty strong!" She said, helping him put the weight down so he didn't hurt himself.

"Th-thanks. I didn't really need your help but thanks…" He replied, "So what's your name?"

"I'm Cathy! I've been lookin' for Big Alp, are you him?"

"Me? No. I've only joined a week ago, never even met Big Alp. Want me to help you find 'em?"

A. Accept his offer, you need to find Big Alp.

B. Decline his offer, he needs to keep training and you're (somewhat) capable.

Cathy accepts his help to find Big Alp. They decide to check the yoga side of the gym. "Maybe Big Alp likes to do stay flexible?" Cathy suggested as they walked through the doorway.

The two of them stopped when they noticed only one person in the room. A moth lady doing yoga, Cathy thought. A yoga moth.

The three stare at one another for a moment, saying nothing as the yoga moth sits eerily still mid stretch.

A. "Are you Big Alp?"

B. Ask Mr. Bones to ask who she is.

C. Leave. Now.

D. Compliment her beautiful wings.

Cathy finds herself hiding behind Mr. Bones, cowering from the yoga moth. Something about those wings just invade her subconscious and freak her out.

"Can you go ask her if she's Big Alp?"

"What? Me?"

"You did offer to help me." Said Cathy. He nodded slowly and reluctantly decided to approach the unmoving yoga moth. As he got closer, she flitted her wings for a moment.

"Uh, n-nice wings. They're really uh, pretty."

She stared silently.

"So, my friend over there is looking for, uh, Big Alp. Is that you?"

Her eyes burned through his soul menacingly. After getting no response, he retreats back to Cathy, shrugging at her nervously.

A. Give up and go home

B. Go to the front desk and ask where Big Alp is

C. Maybe Big Alp is in the bathroom? Cathy can check the women's and Mr. Bones can look in the men's.

D. Just sit tight, Big Alp is sure to show up eventually.

They make their way back to the front desk where the receptionist is waiting for them. She's sitting on the edge of her chair with a smug look on her face.

"So, how did it go? Did you find Big Alp?" She asks. Cathy shrugged, "I looked all over the floor, talked to everyone I saw, I can't seem to find 'em."

"Well, obviously, because I'm Big Alp. I was just testing you to see if you had the initiative and people skills. I see potential, so I'm gonna give you a job. I need a trainer during the night shift and you fit the bill."

Cathy's eyes grew wide with excitement. "You mean I got the job?!" She asked. Big Alp confirmed it with a nod, "I'll have everything set up by tomorrow, just need to get you a shirt for your uniform. What's your size?"

"Medium," Cathy states. It might be a little big for her but it'd be way comfier. "Okay, I'll have one for you tomorrow. If you want you can stay and work out. Being a part of the team means you get a free membership." After thanking her, Cathy decides its time to go celebrate. After all, how often do you get a job the first day of looking?

How should you celebrate?

A. Go out for dinner, maybe a nice sit down restaurant.

B. Go shopping, you gotta buy new shoes and all sorts of crap to look the part.

C. Go home, watch a movie, relax.

D. Do a light workout, if you want to look the part, you gotta put in some time.

"So… uh, you…?" She started. "The name's Alex." He answers. "Alex Bones."

Wow that is stupidly coincidental. "Mr. Bones?" Cathy giggled out. "Mr. Bones is my dad, just call me Alex."

"Okay, Alex. Wanna be my training buddy?"

Alex nods and asks, "What would you like to start on?"

A. Arms. Gotta have those guns and you really should work on them.

Oh yeah! It's time to show off just what you can do! "C'mon, Alex, time to work it!" Cathy says, taking off her hoodie. She heads for Guy Heaven with Alex straight for the barbells again.

"We're gonna work on our legs for a bit, okay?"

"Well, I was planning to do arms today but alright." He says. "Good," Cathy replied, "We'll start with squats. Let's do three sets of ten and see where we're at. We'll take turns between sets." Cathy was getting pumped up just thinking about it. She exercised a little bit here and there a couple years ago, but now she could really get into it!

Not to mention she'd be getting paid to have training buddies! She picked up the 100lbs barbell and began her reps.

Maybe she was showing off a little too much. Alex seemed to be getting anxious as Cathy was finishing up her rep.

A. Let him try the 100 lbs on his own, they're not that hard.

B. Spot him again, he might need your help.

C. Let him use a smaller weight, he's a beginner, too.

D. Try to hype him up, he needs to be confident!

Now that Cathy was finished with her set it was Alex's turn. She couldn't help but notice he was acting kind of weird. He was already sweating and he hadn't even started. Maybe he's really competitive? He seemed to be sizing up a bigger weight than hers. "Think I could get 200lbs this set?" Alex asked her.

"Hold on, let me spot you-" But before she could finish the sentence he had already managed to position the weight on his shoulders. How the hell did he even do that?

He managed one squat, then struggled to lift it back up when his feet slipped out from under him, sending him flying forward.

"Oh my god! I got ya!" Cathy shouted, grabbing the barbell and swinging it off of Alex.

She fell on her back, the weight landing on the ground above her head. "Alex, are you okay?" She said, looking down. Suddenly she could hear screaming and it only took a few moments to realize it was her.

A. Push him off and act like nothing happened. It was just an accident.

B. It's time to go home, this is way too embarrassing.

C. Just go to the bathroom and try to calm down.

D. Get mad, he shouldn't have been lifting that much in the first place so it's his fault.

Oh wait, I've got a way to combine the two.

She gets over the initial shock of having him face down between her legs and her fight or flight response triggers. She autistically bears down on his head with her thighs, squeezing his head as hard as she can but ultimately just suffocates him further. Realizing that this isn't helping, she lets him go and sits him up, waving her hand in front of his face to make sure he's alright.

He's down for the count. Embarrassed, Cathy goes to get Big Alp to help him out.

"How the heck did he get like this?! He's out cold!"

Cathy briefly flashes back to her forcibly pressing his poor face into her hot box of death, and shrugs innocently.

The rest of the day, she occasionally gets phantom sensations and shudders.

As if by reaction, Cathy's legs tightened around Alex's face, suffocating him. He began to panic and started to slap her leg as if to tap out.

"Oh God, get off!" Cathy shouted, pushing herself back from him with her shoe.

The both of them got up quickly, embarrassed at what had happened. "I- I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"

"What the hell were you thinking, trying to lift that much? You almost got yourself killed!" She scolded him. Alex looked even more embarrassed now.

"I know it's stupid but… I just didn't want to be shown up by a girl." He replied.

"Well it IS stupid." She sighed and shrugged, "just try going for 125lbs or something, that way you can feel better about yourself without getting hurt, okay?"

Alex agreed, quickly picking up a 125lbs bellbar and beginning his set. It was much easier for him, she could tell. Good, now if they could both just forget what happened tonight.

It was soon her turn again. It would probably be best to stick with the same weight so Mr. Bones here didn't go overboard.

A. Ask something personal, get to know Alex.

B. Joke about what happened, comedy is the best coping mechanism.

C. Talk about that weird yoga moth just to change the subject.

D. Say nothing, finish your sets in silence, try to get out of there asap.

After Alex finished his set, Cathy lifted her own weight and began her second.

"Listen, let's just forget any of this happened." She said between squats. Alex laughed nervously and nodded.

"Right, I won't let that happen again, promise." He replied.

"At least buy a girl dinner before you do, okay?" Cathy joked. The two of them laughed for a moment before it was Alex's turn to lift again.

"So, what do you like to do for fun?" Cathy asked before he began his second set.

"Oh well… you know, I like to read, it's really not that interesting."

"No, no, read what?" Cathy pressured.

"It's kind of embarrassing-"

"You just got a face full of my cooch, I think we're beyond that." Cathy interjected. Alex sighed, "Well I've been studying the biology of monster women recently."

"You don't say…" She replied, desperately trying not to sound sarcastic. As he lifted his weight and started to squat, Cathy piped up once more, "So studying what exactly?"

"Oh you know, the differences between them and humans. Like slimes for example, did you know that a slime's core controls nearly every part of their bodily function? They think with it, feel emotion and even reproduces through it. It also controls three of their five senses, hearing, seeing, and smelling. The actual 'slime' part does the tasting and feeling. If they're smart enough they can even use their body to recreate sounds and talk like we are now."

It was a little interesting to listen to, but before he got too into it Cathy put up a hand, "Hey hey, your set is done, my turn."

"So uh, what are your hobbies?" Alex asked.

Which hobby should you tell him about?

A. Watching movies, you could talk about them for hours. You use to have friends to watch them with but they all moved away.

B. Video games, you've been a gamer most of your life. You blame your dad.

C. Painting, you're not very good at it, but it's relaxing. Your mom taught you how.

D. Building small scale rockets and launching them. You don't have wings like other gargoyles so it's the closest thing you have to the sky. Haven't done it in a while.

"W-well uh, you know," She stammered, then a thought hit her, "Oh, I use to make these small scale rockets every now and then and launched them. It probably sounds pretentious but I always felt more free watching them shoot off into the sky."

"You're right, that does sound pretentious." Alex replied.

"Shut up." Cathy retorted.

"What do you mean by feeling more free?"

"I mean, I'm a gargoyle without any wings and that was the only thing I got when it comes to flying." Cathy explained. As she finished up her last set, Alex smiled, "That's pretty cool. Have you done any rockets recently?"

"Naw, haven't had the time." Said Cathy.

"We should go some time." Alex suggested.

The thought of making these dumb little rockets again did sound kind of fun. But first she needed to get on her feet again. It was beginning to get 'late' for Cathy, she should probably start heading home soon.

A. Be brave, invite Alex to hangout some time, you could always use a new friend.

B. Tell Alex you'll see him tomorrow, on the clock.

"Oh, uh, yeah we should totally do that. I just gotta figure out my schedule, you know, since I got the new job and all." Cathy replied, sticking her arms into her hoodie. "When I get it, maybe you can help me with the rockets. They're a lot easier to make with two people." She said before she realized she had put her hoodie on backwards.

"Sounds like fun. I'll be sure to check with my boss if I can have off." Alex replied. "See ya tomorrow? Maybe we can hang out, work on the rockets."

Cathy stopped for a moment to look back. He seemed to be coming on really strong all of a sudden. No way, he couldn't be interested in her. They just met!

"Alright, well, keep working those legs! I'll be on the clock tomorrow." She hurried out of the gym, passed Big Alp saying some jumbled form of goodbye and made it outside where she could catch her breath. It was still dark out. Be her guess it was probably only midnight. She had plenty of time to relax and do whatever she wanted at home.

A. Watch a movie, maybe something you've never seen, you still have that subscription to one of those streaming services.

I joined a gym today, gonna be working there soon. Already met a guy there and am unsure of how to proceed. He seems friendly enough, but he may be a little too forward. I was trying to help him lift and somehow he ended up face first in my cooch. Wat do?

After posting a reply to the thread Cathy decides to wash up. She takes a long shower, contemplating everything that's happened. It was a good day, she had gotten a job, met some people, maybe she could turn things around and enjoy life. Tomorrow she was going to do her best.

She finished her shower and decided to check one more time to see if anyone had replied to her before she went to bed.

In Cathy's dreams she saw herself lying naked in her bed. She was pulling down her blanket, inviting someone she could not see. Before anything could happen, her eyes snapped open to the sound of her alarm.

It had been a while since she experienced such a vivid dream, especially with such a lewd topic. Was this because of what happened yesterday? Her mind had been pretty scrambled since then. As she sat up in her bed she looked over to her computer.

"Looks like I got a few replies." She muttered to herself.

As she sat there for a moment trying to wake up her mind wandered. She wondered how her family was doing, she hadn't talked to them for a while and they probably don't know what's going on. Her dad would probably wonder who Big Alp was or why she's called Big Alp. Maybe mom would want to join the gym? She should definitely ask Big Alp if her family would get a discount membership.

Cathy then wondered if Alex would be there. He did say he see her tomorrow, and that he wanted to hang out. Well whatever happens, she needed to get up and do something. Today was the day she gets a new job and turns her life around!

Cathy quickly washes up and gets dressed in some sporty clothes she had lying around. She wondered why she owned so many pairs of spats. Oh well, its time to go to Big Alp's. She makes it there in pretty good time. Big Alp is even waiting there for her at the front.

"Hey, I was hoping you'd show up around this time. When you left I realized I forgot to tell you what time to be here."

"Well, glad I came here first thing then."

"Alright, follow me back to my office." Big Alp said, walking through a doorway next to the front desk. There was a big employees only sign above it. They passed a small room with lockers, Cathy got excited imaging getting her own and decorating with all sorts of mementos from work or friends.

"Take a seat." Big Alp motioned to a chair in front of her desk. The room didn't have much in it all things considered. The desk was bare with two chairs on either side, the one Big Alp sat in was more like a stool really. Behind her was a filing cabinet, and above was a ceiling fan with a basic light. The only thing on the wall was a single poster of a large, muscular black man. It was a little distracting, but definitely made a big impression in such a spartan room.

"Now I know I said you got the job already, but tell me a little about yourself. Why do you want to work here? I want to know Cathy."

Okay, Cathy, you've done interviews plenty of times. Eyes forward, straight answers, be confident.

"I want to work here because I want to improve my life. Most of my old jobs were boring and never really held my attention. Working here is just the kind of change I've been looking for, last night proved it."

Big Alp nodded, "Good to hear. As you already know you need to interact with our patrons, even the scary ones. If they don't want your help that's fine, but there's always a chance that they might. Are you willing to do that?"

"Yes." Cathy answered.

"Alright. I noticed you were getting pretty… close to one of the patrons last night. I don't mind if you gain a few friends while you're working here, but don't let that get in the way of helping others, okay?"

Cathy nodded, blushing. With all the commotion it's not really surprising Big Alp noticed, but she wish she hadn't. "Alright, great, I got some paperwork for you to fill out here and we'll be all done."

After going through the legal hoops, Cathy finally finished the paperwork and was officially part of Big Alp's Swole Station. "Welcome to the team, Cathy. Do you have any questions for me?"

A. "I've been wondering, who's the buff black guy?"

B. "When do I start?

C. "Weird question, how come your office feels so empty?"

D. "Why are you called Big Alp?"

Big Alp pointed to the door, "Well, you can start your training today, I already promised Tabitha she could show you the ropes." When Cathy turned to look, she saw sharp eyes staring at her through the window. A cat? A girl? She was pressing her face up against the window of the office door, a big paw tapping it. "She's the other night shift trainer. I'll leave you to her."

A. Greet Tabitha normally, handshake and all.

B. Get hype, ask if she's ready to get things started.

C. Mimic her, press your face up against window.

D. Try to give her your best smile.

"Oh and here's your shirt." Big Alp said, handing it to Cathy. Cathy was still watching Tabitha making faces in the window. She tapped the window at Cathy with one of her fingers and then pointed back at herself. Cathy wondered if she was going to be okay. Then she had an idea.

She made the biggest. Dumbest. Shit eating grin she could and began to mimic Tabitha, pressing her own face against the window. It took quite a bit of effort to keep up with that damn cat, but she managed to make faces and gestures similar to Tabitha.
