As we all know on here, /monster/
thrives on OC
And while we have a good collection of stories and CYOA's, we are seriously lacking in the department of drawfags.
Too many post in the drawthread and its general flooded with requests, and we simply don't have enough artists to do them.
Hence why I am (re)making this thread: To not only help the people who want to learn how to draw, but also how them get better at it.
This thread will be for posting tutorials, hints, tips, and critiques of your art work. I will be posting several very handy places and resources you can use.
If anyone finds any other tutorials, specifically on drawing actual monster girls, feel free to share. The whole point of this thread is to help people create
more OC
and art to help /monster/ thrive

>Start in traditional. It's a lot easier to get a good grasp of (here's a word you're gonna learn to hate)
fundamentals
There's an immediate feedback in drawing traditionally, as it's very direct and you can feel the medium in your hand. It's less forgiving, certainly, but that'll teach you to plan your strokes.
Speaking of traditional media, draw in everything you can. Graphite, Charcoal, Paint, Ink, Markers, Crayons, everything. Experiment and find out what you like.
if your getting into digital you need to know, is costly be sure you know what you're getting, don't be afraid to ask around, and browse the net for products that are in your price range, set a budget and stick to it
if you're just starting out you don't need a $1500 tablet, and its recommended you don't move to digital unill you've gotten a good grasp on
fundamentals
How do you keep going if whatever you draw disgusts you enough to want to quit?
>Just believe you can do it. I feel the same way when i try to draw, try telling yourself i know i can make this good. Repeat it if you have to. Just dont give up. Do it for yourself. Do it for your waifu
>What you see and what the public perceives, are entirely different matters. You might be unsatisfied with your skills, nitpicking everything and strive to get better. I'm a beast-like retarded midget who can't avoid soiling his pants whenever I try to talk, and the drawings look good enough, or at least I see they keep getting better.
>think about it like this; you may not like what you see, but remember that literally every artist ever had to start in the same position you're in right now. if you want it to look better, then just keep at it mate. you're always improving even if you don't see it; plus, remember that one man's trash is another man's treasure. you might not like your work, but someone else out there might look at it and think "huh, that's pretty cool."
dont sweat the small details right away. just draw what makes you happy and see where you can go with it.
>You should be doing more then just line drawing, It helps with straightening, but you should also be trying to some circle and cube drawings.
>Don't be afraid to start drawing something else either, like eyes, noses and fingers.
>start with basic shapes and add details later

>DO IT
hating yourself is pretty standard for drawing, right?
>So says every artist I've met, yet. I think the trick is to find that
sweetspot
>between never being satisfied with your current skill and being able to live with your own faults as an artist.
>its going to be hard, but even if you feel like everything you make is shit and its not worth the time or effort,
keep on going, every artist has, and does have, that same feeling
>drawing is a tedious craft my man. it's a talent honed through lots of blood, sweat and tears and the occasional self-loathing.

cgpeers is also a great place to get tools like photoshop (I recommend the portable version of CS6) and Paint Tool Sai. Of course, most of us are too early on to be worrying about digital yet.
One thing I'd recommend if you're having trouble pushing yourself to get started is the attached book called You Can Draw In 30 Days, which gives you a series of exercises to do over the course of (obviously) thirty days. It's all basic stuff but I found it's a good starting off point for an absolute beginner before moving on to Loomis or the like.

They're probably referring to using the bigger arc that your shoulder has instead of the much smaller arc of your wrist. As such, rather than using your wrist to move your hand, use your shoulder to move your whole arm when drawing lines because then you don't need to adjust for the curve of your arm nearly as much thus leading to the line being much straighter.
The line lessons here http://drawabox.com/lesson/1 go into more detail.

Thanks. The only thing I can't advance into are the shading and rendering crap. Other than that I can only lurk for now :c
7046fd No.294188
>>294051
I think the main criticism I can make is that your lines are too wobbly, as if you're drawing from the wrist or perhaps moving your hand too slowly. The appeal of girls is their soft smooth curves. Aside from that, I see what you're aiming for with the variation in line thickness and it's good that you've got that in mind. There are some flaws, such as the overall outline of the girl's body (minus the tails) in pic one being really thick. This serves to separate her from her surroundings too much. Watch out for situations like her right calf, where the line of the calf is strong but as it travels down it gets thinner, even though that part of the body is getting closer to the eye of the viewer.
The secondary thing is that when it comes to shading and highlighting, the stuff you're doing does not depict the 3D form of the subject. I'll try to unpack that: the configuration of lighting and object surface shape that would result in the viewer seeing what he sees in, say, the fourth picture, just does not come across as realistic or even resulting from a physically possible arrangement of objects and light sources. It's hard to single out all the particular characteristics of the image give this impression, but one example are the heels of the feet. They don't look round, they look like they're embossed into a flat piece of metal.
To say something more concrete, I think it's better to practise shading with traditional art rather than digital. This is because when you're learning to understand how to render shadow on 3D forms (as well as other fundamentals of drawing), all the technical details of the digital medium only get in your way. How big is your tablet's drawing area? What's the hardware pressure response curve, and how many discrete levels of pressure does your tablet register? Have you got the most up-to-date drivers for your device? How did you set the hardness, opacity, and size of the brush tool in photoshop? Blah blah blah. Fuck it all, just use a pencil and paper. Or a pen instead of a pencil, as a pen gives you two discrete brightness levels, black ink and white paper, simplifying things even more.
Thirdly, the characters (especially in first and second pic) look a bit flat. The tails don't seem like they're receding into the distance enough, and they come across more like 2D cutouts than 3D tubes. The fourth pic is better in this regard, you're on the right track with that. I think a good drawing exercise to remedy the flatness is to draw something like a tree trunk + branches and draw the cross sections going up the trunk and branches, which will be roughly circular out in the world and elliptical on your page. As the parts of the tree change direction, the orientation and eccentricity of the ellipses will change.
>>294060
Breddy gud, although I agree that it's very flat. I guess that other anon's third concern is your primary concern with this pic. Her breasts don't seem to be affecting the shape of her blue top–the wrinkles appear to be joining one completely flat section of the cloth to another flat section of the cloth. The breasts aren't causing the bottom of the cloth to contour to them. Her right forearm and tail don't appear to be further away than her body, although the left arm does appear closer, so you got that right.
There is a lack of foreshortening. Her feet and claws should be flat on the ground, but they appear as if she's standing on tiptoes or is suspended in the air. The scales on the tail and left forearm are similar sizes and distances apart no matter if the body part is oriented parallel to the viewing plane or if it's receding from the viewer.
For both anons, I sketched this pic that shows how lighting and shadowing can be split into a bunch of components. The order of the letters corresponds roughly to the order in which each element should be included (e.g. it would look weird to have ambient occlusion with no main shadow) but don't take it as gospel, it's more important that your drawing looks right than that it follows some anon's scribble. I think it's easiest to focus on the main shadow only in the initial stages, just have a light tone and a dark tone on an object and keep the dividing line relatively crisp. Specular reflections make things look shiny and polished, they make latex look like latex, but they don't have to be in there. Cast shadows, secondary reflections, and ambient occlusion are basically frills on top that in my experience need a lot of practise and references to get right.

Shit, a mouse is better. I'd say just start with pencil and paper, or pen and paper. Especially if money is a concern. Tablets aren't an inherently great tool at all—they're just really convenient for creating 100% digital art. I paid about $100 for some wacom tablet with a 10cm x 15cm drawing surface, it does the job but that's about it.

The demon's from a web serial called Pact and that story has some good /monster/ potential.
>One demon in a female guise, her body twisted, enclosed in what looked like three cubes that had bitten into flesh. Her head-cube rattled, shuddering, jittering, the orientation moving.
>The female demon with the great iron cubes replacing much of her head, part of her torso, and the entirety of one hand and forearm swung the hand-cube into the crowd. Where flesh met iron, there was a mingling of bloodstains, scabbing, and rust. Sometimes the rust touched flesh, and sometimes it was the cube that was stained with scabs.

With skills that require some form of physical skill, such as playing guitar and drawfagging, I find that hate helps me a lot. It's something like "We must embrace pain and burn it as fuel for our journey" except with "hatred" and a bit of that happy feeling you get when you notice you're not as shit.
I mostly just look at good art, go "what the fuck, how the fuck is this fucking faggot so good? That's fucking cheating, god fucking damn" and use pure fury to draw, then, when I make something that's not that shit, I get gleeful feeling that serves as a last push.
Look at this shit, look at this hot fucking midriff and hate the cunt that had the audacity to make something like this while you struggle with fucking line control.
There are also some who use waifufaggotry and porn as motivation, but neither works for me. I abused waifu motivation before, so now it doesn't do much by itself, and, while I can use porn as reference, if I think of it as something lewd to motivate myself, I just get too distracted.

Looks good. To make her more monstrous, you could give her visible fangs, narrow clawlike nails, or blood-red sclera. Buh I'm pretty sure MGE vampires are as cosplay-tier as selkies.
Make the hands more delicate and feminine. The front of the jacket also looks a bit flat. The folds around each hip are symmetrical even though she's not facing front-on.

I don't know much but while they generally look pretty gud, they may be bit too stiff instead of flowing down naturally due to gravity unless they're meant to float alongside ghost(?) girl.
a9e87e No.319354
>>319318
The thing about learn programming is that it's pretty ample. Not to say that drawing isn't, but with art there is a clear beginning (learn basic shapes, line control, construction and perspective, then go from there).
With programming the basics are the way of thinking, something you can't teach someone with a book.
Besides, programming itself can be very broad, there's quite a difference from OO to declarative and from imperative to functional. There is common ground between them, but not as much as with drawing. There isn't much difference between learning the basics on paper and pen or digitally.
The best way you could go about programming is just get SICP, some resource from a language you want to learn and just go out there doing math challenges, applications/scripts you need and going out of your comfort area.
>>319319
Try varying your line width more. I almost never do it, but it certainly helps lineart look better. It looks kind of stiff with the folds being the same size as the rest.
Also, the sleeves look kind of bad. It shouldn't olop around like that, just go down naturally.
I can't draw for shit and I couldn't find a good example, but these pics should help a bit.

Cute angry girl. Do you make an undersketch in pencil for these pics or is it straight from pen?
There are some flaws that consistently show up in your drawings.
>The hands don't look three dimensional and the fingers tend to be the same size and shape. Practise lots of girly hands.
>The lines look shaky in general. This is especially apparent in the hair, where large amounts of lines all closely spaced looks quite messy and frizzy.
>Your girls look pissed off a lot of the time.
>When hair strands or wing folds pass behind an arm, they look like two disconnected lines rather than being all part of the same big line.
>Line thickness doesn't vary much. Do you have pens of multiple thicknesses? Perhaps you could draw over certain lines with a thicker pen or make a planning sketch with a thin pen.
>General flatness from lines terminating suddenly rather than tapering slowly when necessary.

What do you mean by that? Drawing pornographic stuff?
a9e87e No.319447
>>319444
Both are pretty self explanatory, trips man.
You have a waifu and you draw her in specific to motivate you to draw. Either as an act of love or as a sort of workship for the girl you love from the depth of your soul.
Basically it's "I like waifu" combined with "I draw thing I like" that turns into "I draw waifu".
Porn is pretty much the same except with porn. Some people just like porn that much without being too much of a horny faggot, so they can draw smut to motivate themselves to draw and learn anatomy in general.

It's easier to break the 'because' than the 'sucking terribly' link in the chain. But I can't give actionable advice on. doing that because it just happened for me recently after a long time of drawing and I don't know how it did.
I can say that before, I was very invested in individual pieces, even sketches, and I would obsess over the presence or absence of noticable improvements in my drawing skill. When I stopped giving a shit about my piece-to-piece quality it helped a lot. And caring less had no adverse effects on my drawing skill either.

If you make the pen pressure control the size rather than the opacity, does that help with the consistency problem? Perhaps messing with the tablet pen's response curve would help too, you could set it to give an almost full size even on light presses so only the very edges of the stroke get tapered. Most drawing programs have an internal control for that sort of thing and the tablet software should let you change it as well.
SAI is really great but I haven't used it for ages. Play with the stroke stabilisation options.

Looks a lot cleaner now. Your linework is probably the thing you're doing best at the moment. I like the Cheshire's hair in the 4th panel. What you need to improve on is drawing heads and faces from a variety of angles as well as making the composition inside each panel more dynamic. e.g. in the last panel, the characters are moving sideways, and it would be more dynamic to have the Cheshire pulling the dude towards the foreground with an exaggerated size difference due to perspective.
>>328966
>Care to elaborate?
I meant alternating between a themed drawpile on one week, then a regular one the next week, and so on.
With regard to drop-ins, we do get nice art sometimes and the guests are well-behaved but every new connection seems to make everyone else lag as the new person catches up, and more than half the time the new person just leaves anyway. They also have a habit of deleting after they're done, I think because that's the norm in these sorts of collaborative drawing communities and we're the ones doing it differently.

I'm having issues smudging around black outlines. It seems like they appear no matter how much the magic wand outline doesn't show black in there. Is there a trick with layers I'm missing? It's not a problem if I'm using colors cus I can just paint all over but when I'm trying to blend stuff with the smudge tool is where I run into problems.
Also dem snake eyes.
080c3a No.331413
>>331411
Are you painting the colours on the same layer as the linework? What you can do to avoid the smudge tool issue is to create a layer below the linework layer to put all the colour work on.
This might necessitate a change in how you fill in the flat colours to begin with. If you use the magic wand tool ("Contiguous selection tool" in Krita) then you'll want to make sure the colour layer is selected and that the checkbox in the tool options about limiting to the current layer is not active. You may find it helpful to grow the selection by 1 or 2 px, especially if you have antialiased linework. Then you can paint and smudge as normal in the selection and it will not sample the black pixels from the linework layer.
At the skill and experience level you're at, I'd recommend you try the exercises at drawabox.com and in the books by Andrew Loomis linked here: https://8ch.net/loomis/hub.html

Also her far eyes pupil would be at the very edge of her eye, indicating shes looking left, instead show only a part of the pupil(the rest is clipped by perspective). Also where is this poor girls tail?

look at the floating kiki head in the bottom right. Imagine if her far eye's pupil was facing away from us, she'd look crosseyed. Instead, you only see a part of the pupil because the rest is hidden by perspective.

I have a question for you guys… After spending so much time studying the fine details and drawing the female figure and exciting bits, do you not become desensitized to women? I remember hearing about that long ago, I think it was JLR who said he was drawing nude women in some art class and then after a while they became boring after he had already seen it all.
I'm terrified of that, Anons. I wonder if these rule34 wizards ever reach that point where the female figure becomes trivial and boring. I don't ever want to stop loving nice boobies and women with lewd figures. Never ever.
Either way, I'm not sure if I even want to pick up drawing/art, I've already got programming to master.

Draw more nigger. I think you've improved since beginning the drawpiles so keep going.
You do a lot of 'C' shaped strokes and few 'S' shaped strokes. This is most obvious (and most detrimental) in places like the girl's right knee, the bottom of her ribcage, the shoulders, and especially the tail. Using the 'C' strokes too much makes those parts not read well as 3D forms. Contrast those strokes to the 'S' strokes at the bottoms of the breasts, which look more convincing.
You need to do more construction—I can see some errors which arise from a lack of it, such as a flat face, the girl's left hand not connecting optimally with the left forearm, and the lack of volume in the tail.

I've been trying to incorporate poses that are more dynamic than 'Standing, and at a 3/4 angle' into my work, and I'm having a bit of trouble, especially with two people interacting with each other. I usually try to find photos to use as a reference, but I've had no such luck with anything similar to what I'm going for. Have to wing the whole thing, and it's taken me hours just to get two figures that don't look like arthritics having seizures.
I still feel like the blue figure's pose is off but i can't place my finger on it, was wondering if someone could help point out what I've done wrong. Anything else that sticks out as needing improvement would be highly welcomed as well.
I use Adobe Illustrator CS5.1, everything is in vector format.
04632c No.352965
>>352738
In my opinion, it looks to me that blue's proportions are off. Compared to green's legs, for example, her legs are equal to the size of green's lower leg alone. This would indicate she is of a much smaller size, like a goblin for example.
If she is supposed to be that small, then her torso might need to cut some size down. Going back to green's legs again (since he seems to be the dominant part of the piece, he basically becomes the reference for everything else), his lower leg segment is about the same as the length as a line from his groin to his neck. Blue, however, extends quite a bit past that, even while bent. Based on her tummy line, she should be bending towards the viewer, causing a need to foreshorten her torso. In other words, she should lose length, not gain more.
Assuming she is not small, like a goblin, then making her legs a bit longer while also giving her more bend at the waist should help her appear more normally sized.
Hope this helps!
5190ad No.353020
>>352965
She's supposed to be taller, i hadn't realized how small I had made her. And your advice helped immensely, I think this turned out better (I think).
I made her thighs shorter, calves longer, legs longer over all, made her torso twist a bit more, put her hips into the turn, adjusted her arms accordingly, and leaned her head back a bit.
Made the green figure lean in a bit more, his head turned further back, left leg a little more extended to put more of his body into the leaning motion.
Thinking this seems a bit more natural. Wanted to avoid having blue stick her hips out, since I'm trying to keep her looking chaste. But I wasn't sure if putting more leg and less spine is natural looking at this new height.

Again not an artist, but I have two suggestions. One would be to start drawing complex objects that aren’t people at least once a day. The difficulty is in just doing it daily. My other suggestion is just draw something like a hand or paw or torso and post it here, we critique it, you draw it again to the best of your ability and we critique it again and see if you can improve on it further. I wouldn’t focus on a whole person or fine details like a face yet.
I doubt you’ll take it seriously I never do but don’t worry about making mistakes when you’re learning. If da vinci or some other artist were there looking at your drawings they wouldn’t just “lmao newfag” and proceed to physically vomit on your art just because you’re new and make mistakes when trying to get better.

There is room for improvement, but it's nothing practice can't help. My advice is to learn how to "trace." Not line for line; instead, put basic shapes over other images. Doing this will let you see how parts (not just hands, but bodies, objects, anything else) are formed, and how they fit together.
One question though, if you don't mind. How hard are you pressing down with your pencil? From the way it looks drawn, it feels like you are really pressing your pencil down, and committing to your lines. If you are, try lightly sketching your lines first. If you do, then you'll be able to go back and erase/fix your mistakes. For example, the top left thumbs up has a really small wrist. The way it is right now, you can't fix it without leaving ugly line remnants.
In summary; you made recognizable shapes, but there are a few proportion issues throughout most of your examples. Draw lightly, then darken the lines you want to keep. Try "tracing" a few hands for practice (or actually trace, whatever helps you grow.). Don't be afraid to post more pictures, that's what this thread is for!

04632c No.357093
>>357092
If you're having trouble with pressing down too hard, buy a pencil variety pack. It will come in various hardness types (2B, H, etc…) and can help compensate for that. Alternatively, you could hold your pencil closer to the eraser.
As for proportions, get used to sizing things with your eyes. I can't advise too much, since it's still a problem I have, but the more you practice the better it will become. Good luck!

Modern western drawing styles are usually either terrible or connected with degeneracy.
Classical western art style is still too difficult to most.

I have to admit that it is incredibly difficult to draw appealing western art but I will challenge myself with it instead of just sayind "anime is not an artform".
I just have to look through the fine arts for something that might approximate things.
Maybe pre raffaelite or something.
>western art is degenerate
I think western art shines when it is actually made into something romantic, and this is the last bastion of romance, after all.
But yeah, I'm waiting for a cintiq pro preorder to come through.
I will practice on paper in the meantime, but all I have there is pencil.
I might just upload some things if I manage to get something going, although I do not know when.

While I have you, let me just say that if you have to force yourself, then you aren't going to draw your best. It's like any other hobby; we do it because we have fun, and love doing it. So, if you really do want to draw, make it fun. Don't worry about the small stuff, just pick out a crazy idea you like, and go for it. If you just can't enjoy it, then maybe it's not the hobby for you. No one will judge you for choosing something else to do.
If you just want to do something so you can support the board, then writefags are always welcome, or just participate in discussions. Any activity is better than no activity.
Whatever you choose to do, don't let it be a grind!

"Combining styles" is an art in itself and takes at least as much skill to produce as the art that is being synthesized. A trace is pretty much always going to look like someone traced it.
You can get good by just enjoying the creative process, the art emerging from your mind and your hands. Try not to be too self conscious about the process.

Leg in the bottom is too stubby, as a rule of them the length from the feet to the knee is almost the same to the length from the knee to the bottom of the torso.
The one in the left looks weird but I don't know enough anatomy to say why exactly, most glaring issues are the torso being too straight, since the ribcare is a bit curved and the straight legs, there's a bit of a dent inward in the space between the top of the pelvis and the bone of the leg. I'm not sure why you're just dropping this with basically no context. If you are looking for criticism, just say so. If not, then you can submit it to the drawthread.
Anyway, since I'm talking about it, I'm gonna give a short, general criticism. If you want something more specific, longer, etc, say so. Solid design work overall, it's easy to tell what's what even though the image is black and white, which can be a difficult thing to do. The major problems I'm seeing is some issues with general anatomy, whatever inking device you used "getting away" from you, and a general lack of line confidence. For example, her right foot follows a different perspective than the rest of her, you have stray lines walking around her talons for no reason, and the darker parts are inconsistent along their length. Once again, nice work, but needs refinement.
>>362811
Better than your other image. It feels like you used a good reference image, since it has a different feel than the other works you have posted before (which is a good thing, references are our friends). I personally would like to see all your sketchy lines cleaned up or erased, but solid work nonetheless
>>362832
You seem to be doing okay at setting up your figures as a base, but there are some wonky proportions here and there. For example, hands are usually about the size of your face, not half as much. I'd rather see a more complete figure to look at, instead of messy sketches, but it's a good start.
>>363085
I like it. It's clean, has good colors, and a good pose. One of the major issues I'm seeing, her groin seems to be jutting out of her pelvis, instead of following the natural curve. Her feet also seem to be a little small. It doesn't need a lot of work, so good job

Well, to start off, I will say you did a great job. I love the coloring here, and you chose a much better color for shading here than the other one (sorry I don't have any advice for cell shading).
With that said, there are a couple of issues that I see. First, her left ear. Her head is turned to the right, so we shouldn't see an equal amount of ear on both sides. The left ear should have more visible, or the right should have less visible. In addition, her left ear seems to be attached to the back of her skull. This wouldn't be a problem, but her right ear seems to be on the side of her skull, so there's no consistency. If her left ear is meant to be on the back of her skull, then it should be getting light to it, and not be completely in shade.
Looking at her right side, her body is turned to the left. Looking at her belly, however, it looks like her belly button is on her right side, and not in line with the center. Maybe she was born that way, but it looks unnatural to have a belly button so clearly shifted over.
The shading on her shirt is nice, but it's so nice it actually draws attention to the "simpleness" of the shirt. While you do have a few wrinkles on her chest, no shirt that isn't body paint sits so smooth and skin tight on the body, especially with so much mass distorting it. Coming down from the shoulders to her breasts, the cloth wouldn't be vacuum sealed against her flesh. The right side also seems to interrupt the flow of her shoulder unnaturally. The left side looks good in that regard. The bottom of her shirt is curved in the opposite direction of your perspective, unless that's just a weird cut of the cloth itself. Under her breasts is also where the most amount of wrinkles would be, unless this thing is made out of latex.
She also appears to have no collar bone. The indication of such would have been a great way to break up the stark smoothness of her shirt. Finally, this just in reference to board tastes, so don't worry about too much, but her nose shape is a little inhuman. The bottom part is flat, making it more snout-like. Not an issue if you were posting elsewhere, but I've seen too many arguments break out here over something like that.
Hope this was helpful!
c25cad No.365816

To start off, I may not really know what's happening, but it gave me a chuckle.
I'm not sure what sort of feedback you're looking for. Since the piece doesn't look finished, I'm not sure if you want direction on where to go next, or criticism on the composition. So I'll give a couple notes on what I see, and you can let me know if you want anything else.
Right now, she has "spaghetti" hair. Too many lines to indicate hair, but no actual volume. A good tip for hair, is start with a general flow shape, the work down to locks of hair, then add in some strands.
Her arms are looking good, with the scales not twisting around her arm like in some of your older pieces. Good improvement!
I'm not sure if she's wearing a dress, or if she is built like a lamia (which…I would actually be okay with). Even in a dress, you should still see lines indicating her left leg, especially with how tight her dress seems. Unless she's a lamia, of course. Jabberwocky with tail cuddling power…requires further research.
I like the texture on the chicken. Just be careful not to make all you texture lines the same length or shape, and it will help your work feel more natural.
Really, the only two things you are missing to make this a finished piece, is to define your lines and clean up all the sketchy bits. Nice job!

>>365857
I said this before, but this looks good. I see you added in the leg line (which is almost disappointing XD), and really cleaned it up.
My only real complaint is the hair. It's seems like it's supposed to be blowing in the wind, but only the back parts seem to effected. On top of that, it's going in all sorts of directions. Unless there's some crazy winds, there should be a general flow to the whole shape of the hair. In fact you already provided a good example of what I mean in your previous image, with the top head. This picture has a porcupine effect, so the there's no path for the eyes to follow. Not that every strand of hair has to be shaped/curved the same, but there should be an overall consistency.
Have you ever thought about loading these into an art program so you could color/ink these? There are several good free ones you could use. Even if you don't have a tablet, and can only use mouse, it might be worth looking into. I used to do the same for my entire highschool/college experience, so give it a thought.

Surprising no one has commented on this yet. In regards to your question, the first thing that immediately jumps out at me is her chin. It's a little hard to tell, since lighting on slimes is tricky, but the outline of the chin looks off. Her face is looking towards her right, but her chin is mounted on the left side.
Another thing, you have "muscles" showing in her neck, which doesn't matter because she's a slime, so she can do what she wants. But for a slim build like hers, she really doesn't need such defined muscle tone.
Lastly, the water she's formed from is wildly separated from her. Normally, slimes have a seamless transition from puddle to body, but you have a defined border between the two. Part of it is how you used different blues, and another part is how the light treats each substance differently (no shadow by the hands, for instance.). If that's a personal choice, that's fine. It's just a bit jarring.
Other than that, I don't really see any problem with the form, colors, etc… It looks great!
I'm not sure what to tell you about appealing figures, because you already have in my eyes. So, my question to you is what do you find appealing?

Anatomy wise, she looks fine. Her pose seems unnatural though. It seems like her arms go straight down, since her elbows attach to her sides. This makes it feel stiff, and uncomfortable to do in real life. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the impression I'm getting.
>>367193
The bottom half is the right perspective, but her chest is not. We should be seeing the bottom her breasts, and how they rest on her ribs. This would also cover up the view of her neck. Mikey has a good video on it, but here's an image of it to help.
I notice you leave a lot of sketchy lines in your drawings. If you'd like an easy way to have clean lines without having to manually erase all the sketchiness, try tracing the final lines on another sheet of paper. That way, you can leave your original sketch untouched. You don't have to, just something to keep in mind.

Sorry, I wanted to do a red line for this earlier, but I've been busy with my own projects, and also a bit lazy. I will go ahead and give some advice, so I hope it still helps.
For starters, her chest is the first thing that jumps out as a problem. From this perspective, there really isn't a reason for the bottom of her chest to be incomplete. If this were a bottom up shot, it would be okay, but we can still see the top of everything else, so it's a top down view. Secondly, be careful where you choose to start the curve of her breasts. Her right tit has actually started from her left pectoral, which is why it looks so much bigger than her left tit. Keep in mind her center line, which should be the middle of her rib cage. While a large chest might curve towards the center, it starts on the respective side. I tried to give a basic example, while following with your current figure, but I might would turn my own tear drop shapes outward just a little bit more.
Her hands look a little funny to me, but I can't really put my finger on why right now. I suggest taking a picture of your own hand in the same pose, and comparing the two together. That will help you more than I can on this and future pieces.

Sorry for being late with this, but welcome newfriend! Please feel free to join our weekly Drawpiles anytime. Even if you want to draw (because I also hate drawing with a mouse), you can still come in to chat with everyone.
Now, since you are posting pictures in this thread, and not the draw thread, I'm going to assume you want some critiques. My first critique is for all the drawings you have posted so far. While there are some anatomy issues throughout your work, the thing that bugs me the most is the inconsistent linework. I've mentioned this several times in other critiques, but it's important to realize what kind of image the drawing is, before you can call it complete. For example, the red oni in >>367906 has both inked lines and not inked lines. If this is supposed to be a sketch, don't ruin the natural feel of sketch lines with ink here and there. Alternatively, don't ink only half the lines of the image is supposed to be polished. It's a quick way to make a fun or simple piece feel like a mess. If you are nervous about ruining the drawing with ink, then I recommend using a second sheet of paper and tracing your lines there, to leave the original intact. This makes cleaning up the lines much easier (because there are no lines to clean up), and gives you security in preserving what you liked about the original sketch.
There are too many drawings to do a complete critique of all of them in this post, so if you want to hear more, then please post which one you would like the most, or even a new image to be looked at.
With all that said, allow me to say welcome once again!

No amount of books will ever stop the majority of what you churn out to be utter trash.
If you want to draw cute monstergirls, draw monstergirls until one happens to be cute.
If your monstergirl isn't cute, post her here and if you're lucky somebody can guide you into the right direction.
If you do have a cute monstergirl, think hard about what makes her cute and the rest not, and try to replicate it once again.
If you can, then you just learned something, now try to draw monstergirls with her as a standard, don't lose what made her cute, until you understand what it is that makes her cute.
After that, you should be able to draw something that isn't trash, but don't think you'll ever be able to completely shake that feeling of inadequacy because as soon as you are able to draw a better monstergirl, your standard rises in turn.
Looking at pictures of artists that you like, and incorporating elements from them is also a good way to learn.
But don't just draw boxes all day in different perspectives and think to yourself after box 20 gorillion and 5 you'll magically be able to draw cute monstergirls.

I don't have any tutorials, but I can share some advice I learned when I used to do some sprite work. First, find a program you feel comfortable using. I normally draw with Krita, but it's a pain to try and make sprites with to me. MSPaint has actually been my go to, but its up to you.
Second, learn how to keep things simple. Its especially important for small sprites like that, but even game developers would usually not try to add in every detail, such as fingers. A good example is the Megaman Zero series, study those sprites for a lot of good ideas.
And third, remember that 1 pixel can convey a lot of information. It can be the difference between a normal face, and a bug eyed Pinocchio. This ties in with keep it simple, because you can make a sprite cleaner, and more pleasing by hand picking individual pixels to add or remove.
Just have fun with it, sprite work is one of those things that are just enjoyable to make.

These girls look nice, but the pose of the first one seems very stiff. If she's hunched over in sadness, there should be more of a curve along her back line. Try using a gesture line next time, it will help with making more natural feeling poses

First of all, post your shit. You won't get anything more than general tips otherwise.
As for that, I'd say that if you can't draw something it's because you don't understand it as a 3D object. Draw from reference a lot, it'll help you understand how stuff works, bonus points if you get some 3D models to spin around and study from different angles.

Sorry, I keep forgetting IDs exist.
Looks like you're pretty good at perspective, but construction and shapes fucks you up, your lines need work and you don't understand what you're trying to draw.
I'd say construction and line control are what you should aim for right now.
My lines are a bit shit since I haven't used my tablet for months, but ignoring that here's a few exercises that might help.
>1
Draw a bunch of circles in different angles, sizes and aspect ratios. Fill a page with it or half if you're a lazy fuck like me. What you're trying to do is to make the circles as perfect and as clustered as possible without overlapping. I'd say to go over each circle twice without lifting the pen since it'll also help with hand-eye coordination.
Do this as an exercise and also as warm-up before drawing since it helps getting used to the pen before going in.
>2
Line control exercises. Draw a line, then go over it 8 times or so, try to make it as clean as possible and not all fucked up like mine. Don't do that ball thing people usually do with drawing a ball then drawing lines from multiple directions intersecting on the middle, you want to draw lines from various directions, yes, but that'll make it too clustered and hard to see, which kind of defeats the point.
Draw straight lines, squiggly patterns and so on. Straight lines and curves are the best since those are the ones you'll actually use the most.
>3
Draw 3 or more dots, then try to connect them in one fluid motion. Ghosting the lines helps with this one.
>4
Construction exercise. Draw various overlapping 3D shapes, then either erase the parts you shouldn't see or trace over the parts you should, to get one complex 3D figure. You can go abstract or try to draw something with it, but I'd recommend going abstract and using as many different shapes as you can at first.
>5
Then use construction to actually try and draw stuff. It'll probably suck at first and then keep sucking, but the objective isn't making something perfect, but rather giving you a general outline of what you're trying to draw.
>6
And here's what I mean by understanding stuff. Your eye's kind of fucked because you're trying to draw something you don't understand, an eye's a ball with skin over it, but there's a few key points like A- the part right when it goes up being the highest point of the eye, B- the the top back part being higher than the tear ducts, and C- both top and bottom slightly curving inward and then outward as the skin goes from following the shape of the eye to the shape of the nose.
Just study from life, try drawing pictures and then compare the drawing, try to look for landmarks in whatever you're trying to copy and so on.
Also, some general line tips:
>do it at the right speed, too slow and it gets all fucked up and shit, too fast and you'll usually miss the mark, try looking for a speed that works for you
>don't hesitate, think at the starting point and the end point of the line and just go over both of those point, it's hard being exact at first, so it's better to go over the points and have to erase than stop short
>lock your wrist/fingers and move your shoulder and elbow while drawing, except when doing fine details on paper
>pens tend to look sharper, make the outlines and whatnot with a pencil, then trace over it with a pen, it'll look better in most cases not exactly a good advice, but something that's good enough for beginners
Good luck friend.
