It's become the good tone in right-wing movements and those that pretend to be right-wing to condemn Islam as loudly as possible. I get why, because right now, many of its followers are various shades of totalitarian assholes or welfare queens.

Still, I got a feeling that people are going overboard with it, and I really don't want to know where this hatred will lead. I've studied the Middle Ages this year, and from what I gathered, Islam was not that much worse than Christendom. Its followers were invading the Christian world and oppressing other religions, they did fuck Byzantine up, but they weren't particularly cruel. They were the enemy, but they weren't monsters. Saladin was respected in the western world as a just and wise leader who was sadly an infidel. Basileos II, meanwhile, blinded ten thousand captured Bulgar soldiers but left every hundredth of them with one eye to lead his comrades home. This is not to say that Christianity isn't better than Islam, but it does mean that the narrative of the inherently cruel and monstrous muslims doesn't hold water.

The so-called "conservatives" of our age are not treating muslim terrorists as honorable enemies that we can defeat and then make a peace with, and rightly so. There can be no peace with the likes of the IS, all you can do is annihilate them or seal them off and leave them to die. But what do we do about the civilians in islamic countries? If all muslims are inherently seditious and cruel, then we must kill them all, the children, women, elderly, and cripples. This is in fact what some people I talked to propose. Talking to them, you'd think that Islam was a race, not a religion. These people honestly think that we should nuke the Middle East based on a belief that everyone in these regions is a savage from birth, even though religion isn't genetical and millions of people there aren't even Muslims.

This shows the true color of the current narrative on Islam. This narrative is based on an unscientific racialism, collectivism, and an instrumentalization, not a genuine appreciation, of the culture and heritage of the western world. We must oppose it with just as much vigor of the old and tired leftist narrative that Islam is the "religion of peace".

Pic was the first thing I found when I looked for "muslim" in my folder.

If anything, I've become convinced that the religion of Islam is simply incompatible with democracy, and it should be view as no surprise that the only stable Islamic governments in the world tend to be head by some form of a Shah or Monarch. As you say, they otherwise become various shades of totalitarian assholes or welfare queens.

On the other hand, what the fuck happened to blowback theory?

>On the other hand, what the fuck happened to blowback theory?

Was incredibly popular back when Obama and Bush were in office, but now that people are used to the foreign policy of their country, they don't really feel like changing it. Voters and politicians are habitual animals, after all. The next generation doesn't even remember a time when the US didn't have military bases in over a hundred countries.

I like the theory, though. It generally holds true in foreign affairs. Not necessarily domestic ones, though.

Really? Aside from Ron Paul, I know of nobody else who mentioned it. There was no press coverage of it, and back then until now, it seems like places like /pol/ never really acknowledged it.

>Islam was not much worse than Christendom

There's no fucking way that is true. From the start Muslims were slaughtering heathens by the millions and raping slaves. Christians did those things only occasionally.

The reason is that Jihad is a dominant theme in Islam, but the New Testament practically encourages pacifism.

Of course you can always raise the spectre of the liberal Muslim, but the religion hardly gives them a good start in that direction

In Germany, people did mention it from time to time, until they stopped caring about Afghanistan and Iraq.

Alright, let's say they were bad, but not "monsters in human form" bad, like they're often portrayed. They did make some scientific advancements (their economic theories in particular were highly developed) and were capable of honorable and chivalrous conduct. I'm aware that they were terrible slavers centuries before the Europeans entered the trade and weren't nearly as morally outraged by it as many Europeans were. As far as treatment of infidels goes, I'm not sure if they or the Christians were worse (depends also on the era, of course; the early Christians lived side-by-side with heathens). I wouldn't be surprised if Islam had its own Albigensian Crusade or its own witch hunts. Not sure how brutal the schisms were that it experienced.

Of course, they also had Timur, but I don't think Timur was representative of Islam, just as Hitler isn't representative of Christianity. That's a matter of interpretation. As I've understood it, Timur was a muslim, but he could just as well have been tengri or atheist. Neither his personality nor his rule were marked by his religion.

TL;DR it's complex, but I'm willing to be proven wrong. I always try to act on the assumption that I can be proven wrong, but this time, I'm not very emotionally invested in my opinion, either. For all the crimes committed under its guise, I still see Roman Catholicism as the closest thing to the force of good in history.

And I forgot to mention, my standards of shit-tier are high (or low?). The Comanche and Apache used to sneak into enemy camps and scalp children in particular to prove that they had the guts to infiltrate deeply; the Inca would make it mandatory to distort the growth of children's skulls in a belief that this would make them more obedient and submissive; the Aztecs had a culture that revolved around human sacrifice and cannibalism; in certain African tribes, mothers would smash their first born against a rock and then care for a piglet for a year. As a more modern example, the Khmer Rouge killed a third of Cambodias population within just four years. Islam was seldom that degenerate. The Islamic State is an exception, and I'm still trying to make sense of it.

I don't know wtf is going on. I imported every one of those damn flags in the top sticky. They all show up on my end. But whenever I try to enabled 'user flags,' it just stays unclicked. I posted to /sudo/. I've gotten no response. I'm trying to think of what to do that wouldn't involve deleting all of those flags and then trying to re-add them all over again.

I could edit my mistake out of existence, but it might be a good idea to encourage this.

Don't make the same mistake, /monarchy/.
