Should monarchists try to bring about monarchy only through legal methods?

Do most countries have legal avenues by which this could happen?

 No.3938

Hans Adam II has an interesting approach in his book (the bastardization of which I heard on this board is "Doing a political trade for more localized autonomy in return for support of the monarchy"). Otherwise, I've been keeping my eyes on Georgia, as it looks like popular support for a return of the monarchy is quite possible and they've been working out legal ways for the return of their monarch.

In both cases--Liechtenstien and Georgia–as well as countries that have been able to maintain their monarchs, it seems like the key cultural element is a highly monoreligious population. However, you're just asking about legality, not "How can we bring back monarchy?"

According to the about page, there's a group of people who advocate for secession as a means to return to monarchy.

Yes and yes. Even most countries with "entrenched clauses" prohibiting amendment to establish monarchy usually have some means by which the Constitution can, regardless, be amended to disestablish their entrenched clauses and abolish the republic.

That said, I think it would be better to post Kirill Vladimirovich of Russia instead of St. Nicholas the Passion-Bearer, as he illegally participated in the treasonous February Revolution and illegally married his first cousin. He's actually relevant because of the reason Russia has failed to reestablish its monarchy: They cannot decide between the RFA (favored by the government) and Maria Vladimirovna Romanov, his descendant, who is a single mother living in Germany. She also refused to recognize St. Nicholas' remains, along with the rest of the Russian nobility, and every pretender up until the disqualified claimant himself actually said that they were disqualified from the line of succession, motivating him to assume the title of "Head of the House of Romanov" rather than actually assume a title as a monarch-in-pretense.

Russia is currently occupied by a mixed-race class of bandits, oligarchs, and mostly left-overs from the previous Soviet government (who weren't exactly communists in practice, but used leftist rhetoric to steal and enrich themselves, just like they continue to do so now). Those problems you mentioned with choosing the monarch are all trifles, the main reason there won't be a monarchy is that it goes against the occupational government's interests.

My question is how do we bring back monarchies to nations with no dynastic heirs. An example of which is Poland, my nation of birth. We had a hereditary monarchy, ruled by the Piasts up until the Jagiełło dynasty and then once the PLC came to be, it was changed to an elective monarchy. The problem is that if it were to be reverted to hereditary rule, well, there aren't any actual linear 'descendants' of the Piast royal family beyond the usual 'everybody is partially descendant from dynasty X or Y, and elective monarchy has fucked Poland before; it is an abomination of the idea of a monarchy.

So, in that case, what should be done? Would the leader of a monarchist faction, regardless of their background be chosen and start a new legacy and dynasty? After all, the royal dynasties had to start like that, they didn't always exist. I, for example, to my knowledge, come from no great house, but if I were to say, lead a faction or party that gained control over Poland, would my claim to the throne be any less valid than someone's from a more.. prestigious family who hasn't bothered to return the nation to its natural state?

I'm not sure if you can naturally "choose" or otherwise elect a monarch from a group. It might work at first, but the constant threat of wars of succession from all who weren't chosen (and since the monarch is the first of the dynasty all have about as valid a claim to the throne as him) doesn't bode well for stability, especially after the first king dies. I'd say the best chance for a stable monarchy to appear is to emulate what happened back in the day--a respected elder of the tribe, or a well-established family to whom everyone already looks up, makes that bunny hop from prestige to authority and proclaims himself the king of a region. Since his new subjects already place a great deal of respect on the man, it doesn't come as a shock and the resistance is minimal. Since I imagine any such respected individual likely serves as a the de facto arbitrator for most disputes in the community already, there wouldn't even be much of a paradigm shift in their day-to-day lives. In order for this to happen of course, this hypothetical community must be more or less free from the influence of any existing government, being either a stateless region or so far removed from the influence of the state that it may as well be one. Full disclosure, I may be biased in reaching this conclusion, as it somewhat conveniently falls in line with what I'd like to happen as an ancap anyways.
