So I am having trouble trying to interpret even the basic plot of certain stories that I have to read for a English class. The amount of irony and levels of vagueness and ambiguity of the stories are so fucking high even though it means one thing with a clear meaning behind it.

I think these are the reasons why I hate literature and fiction so much. I don't mind and actually like clear and coherent books that are laid out very nicely much like Lawrence Lessig or Eric S. Raymond.

Seriously, why the hell would you obfuscate your message so much that is is lost in a sea of banter and nonsensical bullshit.

What methods do you use to interpret extremely abstract writings and how can you conclude the authors message through this piece of shit they call literature?

That's why you do English Lit', so you lrn2abstractLiterature

But, also bear in mind a lot of modern "literature" is obtuse because that's trendy-n-sheeeeiit

>Interpret the meaning of "S U C C"

There are only 76 words that so begin:

Success, succeed, etc

Succession, successive, etc

Succinic acid and its derivatives (eg succinyl), etc

Succinct

Succor

Succumb

Succulent, etc

Succotash (I know it suffers a lot, but now I know it's a corn-and-bean-based, lightly-cooked sidedish)

(Succory, another name for Chicory)

Succubus, succuba, etc

Succuss, etc

I have no idea which of these words would even make that OC image work.

My best guess would be "success" because imageboards are full of autistic people who don't understand humour

But, since this is /lit/, I'm going with succinct

It's only difficult because it's hard to accept that someone would think the topic the book is about matters at all.

>Eric S. Raymond

I really dislike his writing style. I guess he's clear about what he thinks, but he likes to express it through overblown insults and the occasional threat. If you need to call someone a pixie fart-sniffing hedgehog to get the point across you're doing something wrong.

By comparison, Richard Stallman can obliterate people without saying anything strictly offensive. He's clear about what he means by exactly explaining what he thinks and why he thinks it, laying out his case and his arguments like a mathematician. I prefer that. Showing your meaning through content, instead of relying on tone. But he sucks at fiction. I haven't read any fiction by Eric Raymond, I don't know if he wrote any.
