Nothing is particular, just wish there would be more of the things I like.

ok, i'm not new to the feeling. but if you decide to stop caring about things because of that , you will remain with basically nothing but very obscure meme authors.

In some ways, imagine this: the mainstream fawns over Plato, but does that make his works unenjoyable and insignificant to you? I understand, and to a degree, sympathize with you, but you need to realize that you can't use popularity of something as a guide to literature, art, etc.

But anon, if the mean (avg) person is mediocre, and most of mainstream media is mediocre, perhaps the obscure stuff is actually good.

or maybe a lot of things that are popular, for any reason, have meanings that fly way above the heads of those who like it because someone told them it was cool.

You need to calm down OP. I don't watch tv so I have no idea what the fuck you're so mad at.

this thread is pretty old. i sure hope OP has calmed down, by now or that he has found something else to rage about.

I'm not discounting that, anon, but if something like Plato is popular, it doesn't immediately disqualify its merits. Obscurity, like popularity, is a double-edged sword; some things are obscure because they really weren't good. Then again, I haven't been reading "popular" literature for a while now.
I think that the major culprit and source for discontent for many /lit/erati is the proletarianization of culture and the ignorant populace's mechanical expression of their forgotten culture by way of these transvestic travesties. And because publishers are not cultural sentinels, as most here would prefer if possible, they've facilitated and indulged this menace.
