Well, /liberty/, I fucked up. Was pressing terminals at work today and the circuitboard got caught on the press. Wasn't paying attention and went to pull the circuitboard off the press without properly raising the handle into the locked position, and the weight of the press slammed it down on my middle finger had to be my favorite finger… Pretty sure I'm gonna lose the nail since it's turned about a quarter of my fingernail black, but think the finger itself is fine other than some bruising. Since I work for a small business we don't really have incident reports- your choices are go to the emergency room within 48 hours of an injury and work-accident insurance will cover it, or you're on your own. The CEO and I think it'll be fine other than the missing nail and that's whatever, been applying neosporin/keeping the wound compressed and shit to it all day, finally got around to taking some ibuprofen to bring the swelling down after waking up from an early-evening nap. Does it look particularly bad? I mean it's blacker/more bruised compared to when I took that picture around 6PM (it's 11PM now), but I can feel that pulse tingling feeling, so clearly I'm getting bloodflow through it.

 No.77982

Looks like it might heal up. I've seen shit like that stay on. If it doesn't, keep the nail bed clean and apply bandages/ointment as needed. Whether it stays on or not, monitor it closely for signs of infection (redness, swelling, discharge, odor, etc.). Infection in the digits is not to be fucked with, tenosynovitis is a real nasty whore of a condition

 No.77983

I've lost a nail before when it got caught in a door jam. You should keep it clean and if you need to go to the doctor you might. The nail might fall off but it will grow back eventually.

hmm u should read up on how ppl treated wounds in the past. if u can still feel the area and the bone didnt break then u will probably be fine. if the finger tip has a giant hematoma thats deeeeep in there you should go to the hospital or u might be missing a tip later.

>stop using neosporin, its poison.

>apply raw organic honey to a cotton pad

>use bandage tape to secure pad to ur finger

it will heal faster and better than any wound you've ever treated

 No.77988

Go to a fucking doctor you retard, don't become a cripple just because your ideology makes you want to suck your CEO's cock.

Update from this morning at 6AM before going to work. Popped some ibuprofen, will probably pick up some cactus water and more antiseptics on my way home from work.

>>77985

>Honey

I use honey for cold sores and small cuts, but I'm a little worried about the botulism when it comes to using it on larger wounds, hippy friendo.

 No.78007

>>77981

That isnt anything. Popped my whole big toenail up before by kicking a metal door; the root was still attached and had it flopping in my shoes for weaks while going to school. Hurt like a bitch and got infected. Had my moms friend trim the nail with nail clippers and treated it with peroxide; was healed in a weak. Took half a year to grow back though.

Killed the nail last year too when I dropped a 50lb sheet of wood on my foot. Turned purple at the root and took half a year to fall off; one year later and its almost grown to the length it was previously.

 No.78009

Probably a blood blister and a nail falling off. Nothing serious unless you see infection.

How do you know the CEO? Small company?

It will heal itself over time. Just don't use anti bacterial soap to wash your hand. Anti bacterial soap is a scam that makes your finger nail worn off and possibly worsen your wound.

Yeah, it's a small company. CEO's office is about 30 steps from the production floor, give or take. There's maybe 30 of us max.

 No.78019

Finger is beginning to regain color in it though the swelling hasn't gone down much. Skin lining the nail has turned a little yellow, but partially detached skin has reattached more or less fully (should help against infection). Applied some Neosporin to it. Gonna have a few beers, and when they wear off tonight I'll redress it again and take a picture. It ain't hurting too much now and it also ain't numb, can feel it if I bend my finger though.

>>78012

I've got softsoap and coconut-based hippy soap in the bathroom that I use alternately between hand washings. Will stick with my hippy soap and hot water for now. Read that I should keep it elevated/actively use it to heal it faster, so I guess that means using the bird for its intended purpose as usual.

 No.78020

>>78019

Meant to say when they wear off I'll take more anti-inflammatory meds.*

 No.78174

Coloration is returning to my finger. Under the nail is pretty black, but after applying neosporin, the yellow color around the edges of the skin has dissipated (the re-attached flesh is also beginning to meld/dissolve back into the finger). Forgot to take pics. Will take some tomorrow when I dress it again. I think if coloration has returned tomorrow, I'll go bandageless for a while to let it air out and then decide where to go from there.

 No.78197

Looks pretty minor OP, have you never accidentally your finger into a car door?

This is what you get for not following LOTO

>t. plant EMT

 No.78218

Doesn't look so bad. If you notice any bony pain you might need an x-ray to get it checked out.

 No.78224

>>77981

Well man if your CEO says it's probably fine then why are you worried? Why would a CEO not want you to use company insurance if he thought it was a serious injury?

I hope you lose your finger OP.

>>78246

Private is always better than public, its just that in the US the price is inflated because of the absurd amount of regulation governing it and the health insurance industry. Having experienced first hand public and private systems in various countries, including "Thine Holy NHS" of the UK, I can say with certainty that I would rather live in the US and deal with its high cost of healthcare than suffer under public -only healthcare system in a country like Canada.

New pic. Pretty sure the nail is lost since that blood crack is an actual crack along the nail. Little inflamed feeling at the tip of the finger, but otherwise nothing serious. Outer skin layer that reattached is shrinking/getting absorbed back into the finger, and blood under the nail has stabilized. Only fluids really are a thin layer of platelets that ooze if I pick at the loose blood flecks along the crack.

 No.78306

>>78278

>Private is always better than public

I love how people saying this can only ever offer anecdotal evidence.

 No.78311

>>78306

There was a Californian medicaid study that showed that giving someone the money and letting them negotiate price instead of letting medicaid act as the middle man significantly reduced the price of hip surgeries by about $20,000. Just because I'm too lazy to waste my time pulling shit up right now doesn't mean there's "only anecdotal evidence" though.

 No.78345

>>78306

The fact that there are countries with thriving private medical systems which have to compete with public ones should provide adequate evidence on how much better private is. I still have to pay taxes for the public system regardless of if I use it or not and the private system receives no subsidies to lower its cost, yet me and and a significant portion of my country's population still chooses to absorb the extra cost of going private because of how much better is it.

 No.78354

>>78345

This is retarded. Public healthcare systems don't compete with private. The rich take the private system and the poor take the underfunded, under staffed and therefore worse public system.

This doesn't mean private healthcare is better or more competitive, it means the healthcare system needs more funding.

 No.78359

>>78354

>funding correlates with quality

>only the rich can afford the private healthcare

Update: Nail turned all kinds of gnarly. Finally trimmed back.enough to realize it was all clotted up and the nail has separated from the nail bed, so trimmed off the separated part and hydrogen peroxided it to kill off any bacteria/yeast infections swimming around. Don't think I've ever seen so many bubbles from hydrogen peroxide. I still have a piece that's separated from the bed, but the front of the nail has yet to separate so I'm just gonna have to trim it some more until we reach that point. I figure I'll give it an alcohol swap once a day to keep it dry/free of infection, but unsure what to do since I swim a lot, wash my hands a lot, and work with humid gloves on a lot.

When I was a kid I thought it would be a good idea to sneak up on and surprise my cat, the little fucker bit me so hard that my nail was hanging off. Then my faggot dad lied to me that it wouldn't hurt if he'd pull it off.

Now the nail on my middle finger is shaped differently than the rest of them.

 No.80361

You need Calendula skin cream for that kind of wound tbh. To make the healing more effective, get a LED light and beam it right into the wound for couple of minutes right after you apply the cream. Using led light from a usb mouse would do, you need to do this everyday. Read more about the benefit of LED and Calendula, how it will help you healing your wound better. As long you don't make the wound worst, the nail will regenerate back naturally.

video related on time lapse of how the nail will regenerate.
