Does anyone have a .pdf of Thomas Sowell's "Basic Economics" in its latest release (I think 5th edition)? It, in general, a place to get access libertarian/capitalist lit easily?

I know that the Mises Institute has a great repository of tons of works, so I'm going to link it here to get it out of the way for this thread: https://mises.org/library/books

If you have a link to any resources outside of the typical "check the Mises Inst.", especially Basic Economics (which I'm specifically looking for right now the), then your contribution to this thread is especially valued.

I listened to it as an audiobook on Youtube a while back, not sure if that was the latest edition or not. If you read a lot of Libertarian and economic literature already I don't think you'll get much out of it, though, unless you really just like Sowell.

I read, but not very heavily. I have a passing understand of econ (as in, I can make arguments online) but it's not my profession nor my particular interest up until now. I read "for a new liberty", it convinced me and I went back to the lit I'm usually interested, but for the [upcoming] new year I want to really un-brainlet myself. That's why I'm looking for this as a starter.

It's more of a defense of free markets. You won't learn much economics out of it. I suggest Menger's Principles and Human Action.

Thank you both very much! If you ever find a link to an ebook, article by someone significant within the movement, pdf or resource that's hard to find it (you wouldn't find it on Mises or via a google search) then just post it here.

I think the real benefit of Sowell's Basic Economics, is the large amount of historical examples he gives throughout. This is a book for a layman, who basically wants to understand enough economics to decipher what politicians and the media try to bluff to the average joe. In a strange way, I don't think Sowell set out to create a defense for the free market, so much as he set to allow history to speak for itself, especially as to show what happens when one tries to constrain markets. The funny thing is that many leftists will ignore this work, mainly because they think it is biased, but also because history is not kind to them, and this book shows that history. Sowell was also a socialist economist before working for the government. It's amazing how doing that will make a man question his ideology.

He questioned it because the theory itself was inconsistent not just logically, but mathematically as well, and he was not given answers why it was so. Then he looked at all the other government employees and realized that they knew, but didn't really care. It's not really that amazing as long as you can still tell 2 and 2 doesn't equal 5.

Honestly, if you really just want to unbrainlet yourself just fucking go all in and read Human Action. It's a long book and it's dense but it eases you in with taking economics one little point at a time and by the end of it you're really getting into proper economics with all the fun stuff like subjective theory of value, the effects of interests rates with regards to the economy, the importance of profit and loss, and so much more. Let me tell you, your internet arguing will also be so much more convincing. Sometimes I pull out my copy of Human Action just to paraphrase it when arguing with someone.

If you read an hour a day it'll take about a month and a half, give or take, and once you're done you can pat yourself on the back because you're an honorary brainlet for just having the discipline to finish it for many have tried and many failed. But I speak for all of us when I say that we believe in you, anon.

This right here. It wasn't my first read, but I started it relatively early, and damn was it worth it. It's long, but every single sentence is gold. There's no padding whatsoever.

Anarchy has no economic system

 No.73483

>>73480

fuck off, I will refute you every time

anarchy dosnt adhere to some rule about its economics, but it DOES have economics as far as it describes human interaction for the purpose of value

there is a heavily guarded but very valuable treasure, is it worth risking your life for? will you be able to sell it? can you pay someone else to steal it and still turn a profit? would you turn a profit just trading for it? these are all questions revolving around economics within an anarchy

>Anarchy has no economic system

So what? What does that have to do with this board? Go over to >>>/anarchy/ if you want to proclaim the joys of anarchy. At this point you are doing nothing more than spamming the board with shitposts. You seek no debate or to even have reasonable discourse. In my opinion you should be banned because you add nothing to any discussion and only stall and derail every thread you post in.

This is a good article by Walter Williams, good friends with Thomas Sowell, also fellow Negro, not exactly about economics though
