That thext is from the 14th century, it might have been written by a scribe who didn't even speak Hungarian. Today we'd write it as isszuk. The full sentence would look like this:

As you can see it has all those fancy letters that simply didn't exist, and they had to write random clusters of letters to somehow represent the sounds. Bulgarians didn't kill the byzantine empire by separating, they left it because multiple famines and wars made it clear that the byzantine empire couldn't defend itself or its protectorates anymore. Serbia and Bulgaria were simply in a world where their big brother was dying so they decided to raise their own armies for protection.

Bulgarians and Serbs both sent levies to Byzantium to fight Ottomans until it was too late, it's why these countries were short on soldiers and were little more than speed bumps to the Ottomans later on. Same for WWI and WWII, these countries all sacrificed for each other, cooperated and share a long history.

Hungarian territories were never part of Croatia (well, except until 100 years ago, when they got the Baranya-triangle according to the treaty of Trianon) just as Croatia was never part of Hungary - they were in a personal union with us, meaning that our king was the same, but both of us had their own nobility, laws and customs.

It's not like Greeks would recognize him as their emperor (except the parts of Greece that Serbian empire conquered), but it tells you a lot about how they viewed each other – as equals and friends, or at least that's how the Serb emperor tried to portray it, even though he didn't have to. Well, you said it yourself, it was a civil war. In such circumstances, opposing sides frequently reach for literally any allies. The rightful emperor of the Palaiogoi was supported by the Serbs, while the Kantakouzenos usurper balanced the scales by allying with Turks. In hindsight, that was a really shitty move long term, but he would have lost the war otherwise (he won in the end and became co-emperor), so I guess it worked out for him? It's also important to note that Turks weren't considered that serious a danger at the time. Anatolia was splintered among many Turkish rump states after the fall of Sultanate of Rum, with Ottomans being just one among many of them, with no holdings in Europe at that time. Byzantium was surrounded by enemies on all sides, be it cruader rump states left over from the 4th crusade still squating on their lands, merchant republics of Venice and Genoa (although relations with Genoa were relatively friendly) squatting on more land and shitting things up further, Bulgarians and even Serbs never passing an opportunity to grab more clay if the situation allowed it, other western powers meddling in matters further, all the while coupled with massive instability of the empire itself, plagued by frequent civil wars, plagues, and plundering armies. Turkish steppemonkeys from beyond the Bosporus just didn't seem THAT threatening, especially in their disarrayed state at the time, and it wasn't until decades laters that the world even saw them as a threat.
