There's no discharge in the war!

What if somebody made a 20 gauge shotgun with a barrel thick enough to have the diameter of a 12 gauge or 10 gauge, and then loaded up shells that would send shot and slugs flying at rifle speeds? Is it possible? How else could I essentially get an artillery piece?

pic only tangentially related

What exactly are you getting at, OP? There's a big difference between overpressure 20 gauge and artillery.

Are you drunk?

>How else could I essentially get an artillery piece?

Aren't there states where you can literally order a fucking howitzer online and have it delivered at your door next afternoon?

eb5d99  No.618323

Would rifle velocities even be possible with a wad? Wouldn't the necessary pressure cause the wad to deform?

If you are going to use a slug, why not just use a 15mm cartridge for the same effect? You could start with the MG151/15 for a rough approximation of BRRTT or the PTRD-41 for something more reasonable. Even though the Lahti L39 will always be best girl

I was a little tipsy.

Within the effective range of a shotgun, it sure would be like you're firing artillery into the target.

>>618317

I don't actually want a howitzer, though, yet.

>>618323

I think those above .50 caliber rifles are considered destructive devices, and thus not legal for civilian purchase or import. I'm not entirely certain, though. Okay, so we have to also redesign how we load the shotgun shell. Seems worth it, to me, if I can have something that can be shouldered and deliver an extreme sporting hurt.

Demilled, yes. Otherwise you have to file a form 1 or form 4 with the (((ATF))) and pay a $200 fee for a (((tax stamp))) in order to have a functioning piece.

Though basically none of the above applies if it's 19th century or earlier muzzle loader designs.

Some old 20ga singles have barrels that thick on 12ga recievers. I own one, its rifled. Issues would include the locking mechanism failing and the barrel failing. The steel used in shotgun barrels is usually lower quality than that of a rifle.

So it's not a problem then? 200 bucks is nothing compared to owning a canon!

There'll be a (((small))) waiting period, sir.

I'm a little rusty on my Guns for Bad Goys law, but I believe you need to register and pay the tax stamp for every piece of ammunition, as well.

That's true. At least flamethrowers are considered farming equipment here.

If the ammunition goes kabang then you pay the same price as you would a grenade. If its solid then its basically a big bullet.

bfdddf  No.618679

>>618415

Nope. It's still larger than .50cal xddd

iirc that was more or less how it went, unless that was just for the gun itself

20e364  No.618699

This exists OP. It's called the "12 gauge from hell". It can launch a 730 grain slug at 2700 FPS. .50 BMG muzzle energy with a .729 diameter.

>>618679

Being over .50 cal doesn't mean anything for the ammo. That only applies to the weapon itself being a single $200 tax stamp. Individual non-exploding pieces of ammunition over .50 cal are treated just the same as any other ammunition.
