I will be frank: It is nearly impossible to find a good quality strike anywhere match. What is a man to do about it in this day and age?

I remember the days when a diamond strike anywhere match was not a piece of shit, but alas those days have passed.

Do you anons have any recipes for strike anywhere matches? I've never seen any infographics about them before.

I've been getting by in the last few years by making my own by sanding the striker strips on a box of survival matches to get powdered phosphorus, and then coating the match heads in that and wax, to reasonable results. I hear that this method is pretty dangerous though, so I want to know if there is a better way.

Honestly just buy a bunch of regular matchbooks, stick them in plastic bags, and distribute them here and there in your pack. Strike anywhere is nice but not crucial enough to go through extra effort. I've got a box of regular matches I use with the grill that I leave sitting outside. They get rained on every once in a while but still work after they dry.

You need to find yourself some Redbird matches.

Why is it that for every one decent leaf, there are 2-5 fucking leafs?

Holy shit just buy a ton of lighters and you are set for life.

You can buy 1000 lighters for 0.16 pound per lighter from advertisement companies, which costs you a total of 160 pounds.

With 1000 lighters you are set for life, and got more than enough spare to trade some away.

It's not funny anymore, they're a problem with how they derail every decent thread

I personally prefer to use matches, though I do use my lighter a lot. I can't stand those cheap bic lighters you are talking about though, where even the slightest breeze will put out the flame and the shitty flints can get stuck.

With a decent lighter it's not really a problem, and I agree that they are very useful.

The advantage of matches over lighters is their disposable nature and length of burn time compared to effort. Cheap matches suffer the same wind problems that lighters do, but a match worth it's salt is hardy, lights easily when used, and has a decent burn time. And you don't need to get any minor burns trying to shield the wind or from sticking burning kindling into the fire, or from angling your hand to get close enough to the kindling to light it with a lighter.

Matches and Lighters both have their place.

Get a piece of hemp string and impregnate it with wax a little by dragging the string through molten wax and then compressing it to make the excess wax flow out.

When you light the string using any sort of lighter or match the wax will burn hot and cause the underlying hemp to ignite. Once it burns, any wind will only make the hemp burn hotter, not make it go out. The wax will also seal the hemp from water and make it waterproof.

These were originally used by the military, because they were far cheaper to produce than any other lighter and could burn for as long as you had string. You only needed to ignite it once and could pretty much forget about it, unless you dipped it under water-

Nowadays it's used by stoners to keep heating their weed for a long time without having to go through lighters or matches like shit.
