1. Thin your toenail by scraping it with a knife or scalpel (image). As nail thickens it tends to curve it inward, which causes ingrown nail. Thinning the top will reduce the thickness of the nail and prevent it from curving downwards into the flesh.

2. Don't cut your toenail close to the meat, in fact its best to cut it once every two months or so.

3. Do not wear shoes that are tight. I see so many people buying tight steel toe shoes to protect their toes…. and ending up with oozing pustular nightmares because of it. It would have been healthier to drop a buick on your foot.

If you absolutely must, simply pull out the fingernail. It will re-grow a new one and is far far easier thing to do than what this guy just did.

Just go to your local votech and see if they have any first aid classes. they'll teach you about CPR and shit. If that's not enough to sate your thirst, then yeah, you'd be better off looking up janky youtube videos and reading old surgical text books.

Why? Are they actually effective on gunshots, or is that just a meme?

Tampons are good for nosebleeds, which are a common symptom of having been in a fight.

They are also excellent for starting a fire, just pull one apart and light it up.

They're pretty great if you want to sponge away blood so you can see inside, but gunshot wounds are more complicated than just plugging the hole. Covering it up just hides the fact that your spleen is exploded, or you have a venous bleed, or some vital organ is fucked up.

If you're in the middle of a battlefield and there's no medic around, they'll pack you full of garbage just as makework, to have something to do before you die horribly. Any trained medic is going to get out a couple of clips, find the bleed, clip it, and stabilize you with a pack of saline. You can wait that way for days.

Nothing beats good training.
